Abnormal UGI, questions

I had my UGI yesterday and it was totally nasty as most of you know.  The Dr. left right after the test so I asked the nurse if everything was okay.  She said "He didn't say anything so I guess it is okay."

Well today, I got a call that my UGI came back abnormal and that they made an appointment for me to come in on Tuesday to discuss it and to also schedule another test (endoscopy, I think, not sure as I was kind of shocked.)

So, has anyone had this?  What is the recovery time after getting it removed?  Do you think It will mess up my surgery date for 3/31???  Maybe I will have to be converted to a RNY instead of a band????

Any help would be appreciated...

Don't fret I had two of these and other test of the esophagus. The surgeon or others involved in your WLS can request these test. It's a simple test doesn't take long and sent right home. If you've had reflux or other problems of the esophagus, duodenum, or stomach or any other gastrointestinal /digestive problem it allows them to understand any complication that could occur during surgery.  Good Luck! Hey Cathlena, time for the advice...

BREATHE!!!!

Don't sweat it girl.  I've had 9 endoscopy's over my lifetime.  I had suffered from acid reflux for years.  I actually had my last EGD (endoscopy) about two months before I met with Dr dyer.  If I had not had one at that time, he would have ordered one to be done.  As far as recovery time form one, we are talking you are right as rain within 2 hours of waking up.  So, don't worry about it.

As for the surgery date, only your Doc can answer that one!
Hang in there!

Thanks for posting!  I feel much better about it all.  I had a scare of CIN III about two years ago, so of course I start thinking about all of that again...

Glad that there is not a recovery period for removal.  I think that it will go smooth....

Cathlena(I love that name!)  I told my friends before surgery that the only person who wanted no complications with my surgery more than me, was the surgeon!  Complications mess up their surgical record! Sounds like your MD is being careful to ensure a successful surgery--and that's what we all want!

Cathlena,

Don't worry, just as others have said, the endoscopy is not that bad.  I just had mine done yesterday and within 30 minutes of having it done I felt fine.  I had the procedure done around 1:00 and was leaving the hospital by 2:00.

Best of luck at your appointment on Tuesday.
