I am 18wks out.......down 42lbs and currently averaging about 1-1.5lbs a week (last 3-4wks).  Any advice on how to kick start myself and up my numbers a bit.  I am working out on my own M-F (30min at least 3 days a week...most weeks) and with a PT on Saturday mornings.  I think I have the excercise under control and am where I need to be there.  I am looking for food advice.  I get my water and protein in daily.  (I average 75-100g of protein daily and 50+ oz of water daily).

Grateful for where I am and the lost, but........
Thanks for any advice or help!

Wishing ALL only the best!

I've read that it is common for it to slow down a bit and then pick back up with WLS. I'd talk to your nut (nutritionist) about it and see if he or she notices anything you've missed. As well from all the attempts I've made at losing weight, I know that you need to change your work out routine around every 12 weeks or so as you body gets used to your routine and kinda hits a plateau. I'd talk to your PT about it and see what he or she says about it. Maybe just changing your work out routine around will help a bit.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe 100 grams is a bit too much protein. My nut told me that 70 grams was my goal, anything else is just extra calories I really don't need, ya know? But I'd check with your nut about what their goal is for you.

Good luck, I hope things pick up for you.

Thanks Kenny for the advice.  I was advised to get in 75-100g of protein.  It is such a chore to get in that much protein and watch my calories.  I don't really count calories, I just try to be mindful of what I eat. I actually think I may be eating too little and not getting as many calories as I thought I was.  I know when your body goes into starvation mode, weight loss halts.  It is such a balancing act and I am trying to figure it all out.  All the help and advice is so helpful!  Thanks again for the advice and best wishes on your journey!

Hi Fit n Fine,

I haven’t seen you post in a long time. It is so good to see you.

Down 42 lbs. and losing 1 to 1.5 pounds a week is great, however I do understand your frustrations.

What about your Food Journal? Sometimes I ask myself How does a food log or food journal help improve my results?

The reality is we all want to look good on paper! It’s just human nature. When I keep a written record of say, how much I walk or what I eat, I adjust my actions accordingly to make myself look better. If I am honest and consistent, logs make a big difference.

There have been studies done and it was discovered that when people were asked to cut calories and walk at least half an hour daily, those who kept a food and exercise log lost 100% more flab than those who did not.

Another suggestion is to share your log. Have a friend regularly review your written food and exercise record. When I do this I feel extra accountable. I remember once when Baboo shared with me her food journal at a get together, I was so impressed and inspired by her precise entries. I do believe she helped me more than I helped her.

You can use a detailed spread sheet or post to a cool free website like fitday.com or sparkpeople.com or scribble on a sticky note or on the back of an envelope. If you are honest and consistent your log will make a big difference.

When you review your log look at it real careful and see if there maybe something that you can omit and find out if that may be a problem for you. It could be something as innocent as a protein bar. As delicious and convenient as these are they stall my weight loss efforts. I replaced them with real food that was just as convenient and protein rich.

Taking this time to learn how to make real food choices and make good new food choice habits is going to pay off down the road when you are a “new mom". That will happen for you, I just know it… I am just so happy to see you posting again….

Hi!!  I have been lurking and just trying to gain information and insight into this wild and crazy world of WLS.

I will definitely try the food journal thing,  I started that before, but didn't keep it up because it was so much work to find the nutritional value of the foods I was eating.  I travel S-F for my job and often I am in rural towns eating at local diners or I am eating at major chains.  I really think I may not be getting in enough calories.  I get most of my protein from my Isopure protein water (40g)  I do at least a bottle a day, sometimes 2.  I must admit I also count on the Atkins protein bars to finish of my protein count at the end of the day.  Maybe I should ease up on the bars.

It all seems so overwhelming sometimes!  Glad you are doing well.  And thank you for the journal idea.  I'll keep you posted on how it works for me.
