6 month medically supervised diet
So, I went to my PCP today and started my 6 month diet. I also got a prescription for Chantix since I know alot of surgeons require you quit smoking before your surgery, so I figured I'd get a head start on that one!
But, I have a question, if you lose weight during this diet, will your insurance company say, well you lost weight with this so no surgery or what? I'm confused about this!!!

From what my insurance lady said.... the weight is taken from your first weigh in with your surgeon.
I think it is more to weed out those who are serious and those who want the quick fix. If you can loose weight and stick to it for 6 months, then you are probably in the right frame of mind to be able to handle all of the issues that a RNY will present. But then again, that is just my guess.

I think that is the question we hear the most. Missy pretty much nailed it on the head. In my opinion, the 6 month diet is to help you become a stronger and more determined weight loss patient. I'm sure there are many other, probably more medically sound reasons why, but that is how I feel!
During my 6 month diet, I lost quite a bit of weight. My insurance person at one point even told me to "be careful", they had a couple of women who lost so much that CIGNA denied them on that basis. I told her the made me want to go on the Blue Bell diet. You know the one...stop on your way home from work and grab a 1/2 gallon of Blue Bell Ice Cream! I didn't do it, but it mad me angry.
I can say the 6 month diet helped me to start new habits of eating. It helped me prepare for what life was going to be like after surgery.
I hope this helps, and Welcome to the TN Forum! Jump right in, the waters fine!
