Prayer Request and Question
I'm so sorry for your loss and for the big job your sister will be shouldering from here on in.
Not to put too fine a point on it, funerals cost a bundle! I hope this doesn't sound crass or uncaring. In Nashville, there is a crematorium that will accept bodies without a funeral home. If there's one there, that is absolutely the lowest-cost alternative. Then, if he was a church-going guy or if your sister is, then they can have a dignified memorial service at church.
Since they were separated, maybe somebody in his side of the family would be willing to underwrite a more traditional funeral, if that's what they think is appropriate.
I feel so bad for those kids, especially the daughter whose birthday he was celebrating. My mother died just a couple of days after my 12th birthday and I know that did weird things to my birthday for me forever.

I think the kids maybe would be well served by some counseling. Our mother died in the house, and it was horrible, very graphic. I was the oldest of 6 and all of us are affected in some really bad ways. I'm "only" 55, but two of my younger brothers are gone, already.
We did get some counseling, but not for years, when my younger brothers started acting up. By then, I think, probably too late.

I am sending prayers to your family. I am so sorry. Has she applied for the Social Security Death Benefit? It's not much, but it's something. You've gotten some great advise so far, so I won't duplicate that. I am so sorry for those children...how sad! Best wishes to all of you. Micheala.
