Fage .....Yuck
What am I doing wrong? I know it's something because it is awful like I'm doing it. If I can;t figure it out, I am going to have to go back to my Kroger Carb Control. HELP!
Fage is not sweetened like your typical yogurt. I'm not sure if you have ever checked the labels of yogurts (if not, you should). Some have up to 30 sugars per container! Anyway, Fage does not have the sugars added to it but does have some natural sugar. You can actually use it as a sour cream topping if you wish (I like to put it on salad sometimes).
You can add a packet of splenda (or two) and then add a package of Kay's Naturals protein cereal. That is really good. Or, like you tried, add some sugar free preserves, even some fruit. Paula taught me to add a scoop of cinnamon vanilla IDS protein powder and some sugar free cinnabliss syrup. That's what I used to like but haven't done it in a long time.
You can also use it to make tsaziki sauce, like the Greeks use. Its really good but I have never made it... Fage shouldn't be eaten as is... it is very unpleasant.
I am diabetic so I have been reading the sugar labels for a long time. I have tasted Krogers low sugar low Carb ones and they are good. Sugar and Carbs are low. I was just taken back by the plain sour cream taste of Fage. i know from reading the labels that if I can make this work it would be a good choice.
I am going to start my 2 week Pre-op diet tomorrow and it calls for Yogurt snacks as one of the choices to eat. I think this one will be good. does it come flavored? I only saw the plain, no flavors.
I don't have Cinnamon vanilla IDS or SF cinnabliss, but World Market is going out of Business in Memphis, and I am going over there tomorrow to see what they have on sale. I'll get some SF Cinnibliss if I see it. My cabinet is beginning to look like Starbuck
I know you must think that I am really stupid for a smart girl. I am so thankful that there are veterans like you to help. I want you to know I am very thankful
If you like hot (fiery) foods you might enjoy mixing in some chopped chipotle peppers and a little minced onion...it makes a killer sauce!
I also mix it with apple chunks, celery and a few pecans (kinda like a bariatric waldorf salad.) This is not for new pouches but for those of us who are at least a year out...it is yummy! Many people cannot tolerate celery but I am fortunate so...learn what works for you and only use the ideas that meet your criteria at the time (i.e., pre-op, post-op - weeks, months...years.)
Just get creative. You will love it once you learn to use it.
Good luck!
