Why I am happy (just this second) that I was denied....;)
So here I am sitting in front of my computer thinking that after all the frustration that being denied (b/c I didn't have 6 months PCP supervised diet & xrcize...) brought me in the initial weeks, that the tiny bit of silver lining in this is that I really, really, REALLY love Cadbury Cream Eggs. So embarrassing to admit, but I so do.
I know, I know...those of you who have had surgery are about ready to vomit right now....I mean, I am sure that post-surgery that just sounds disgusting, and after next month (I just finished my 6th month appt & will do one more & then submit for approval via appeal--I should have a yes in 15 days after I submit, per the insurance company) I bet I will not look at them the same way I do now, but I was thinking tonight, after I had the last one I probably will ever have (okay...I am sure I will have at least one more before surgery...let's be honest here) that I am glad that I was able to get to the "Easter 2009 Season" if just for these Eggs.
Since I am new to the TN board, please know that I am really serious about my RNY surgery & absolutely will be compliant post-surgery, but I have to be honest about these darn eggs. I didn't get to 275 pounds at 5'8" by not eating sweets, that's for sure! So, au revoir forever to the Eggs (and the conversation hearts on Valentine's Day and the peppermint bark & biscuits at Cracker Barrel during Christmas and the tiny candy bars at Halloween....need I go on?) and hello to those yummy liquid vitamins & EAS drinks......like they say, nothing tastes as good as skinny feels (but did they consider the eggs?...lol!!!).
All in fun....hope you all enjoy your weekend on your way to skinnyville & healthyville!!! Take care, Micheala.

The Cadbury Creme Eggs I can live without. The caramel ones on the other hand are soooo yummy. And any form of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, like those eggs that are like 2 or 3 cups in one. Not that I plan to get any this year. Just one opens the door for more!
It seems like the stores go straight from one holiday to the next (right after Christmas the Valentines stuff was already out!), and from one special holiday version of candy to the next. And places like Walgreens and CVS, etc, always seem to pile the candy up near the checkouts to prey on those of us with impulse control problems! (<-- whooo? Meeee?)
Congrats on being near the end of your 6 month supervised diet! Have one egg, maybe, to get it out of your system, then RUN AWAY FROM THEM!!!
Here's the nutritional info: 150 calories/5g fat/25g carbs/1g protein
Just assuming you burn about 1.3 calories per minute (basal metabolism), it would take your body nearly 2 hours to burn the equivalent # of calories in that egg. Eat it in 10 seconds, takes 2 hours to burn off. Or a 20 minute walk at 3.5 mph just to get rid of the egg. Ehhh, is that really worth it, considering it has like no nutritional value?
If you must, have your last one, then have a ceremonial funeral for the eggs as you throw the wrapper in the trash! I miss a lot of stuff I haven't eaten in awhile (McDonald's French Fries!), but as with all mourning, the pain from the emotional loss gets better in time! Plus, the more we wean ourselves from that crap before surgery, hopefully the easier it will be for us after.
If I hear you eat more than one of those things, we're gonna send the TN Posse out after you!!!!
Denise
Denise--I LOVE your thinking & calculations....I am always putting things in that perspective (how long it takes to burn it off!) so it was funny to have someone put it that way to me.
I have said goodbye to the Eggs...no more for me. I am focused on weening myself off of caffeine before surgery &, since chocolate has so much caffeine in it, that must go, too. Luckily, I don't have the requirement of loosing a percentage of weight prior to approval for surgery, but I am getting my carbs down to below 50/day (okay...not yesterday in the moment of egg weakness)....so it's not such a shock to my body. Plus I actually love exercise & I want to be able to get back in the gym ASAP post surgery....
So, don't send the Tennessee posse to Franklin anytime soon...I am behaving! :)...Micheala.

I bet that the pre-surgical weaning is really gonna help. I pretty much broke a 30 year diet Pepsi addiction and I NEVER thought that would be possible. Dear Diary!
You are off the hook for the TN posse for the moment. But we still have our eyes on you! (how can they NOT have a smiley doing the point at it's eyes, then point at you?? Imagine one here!)
Do I have to go to work today? I'm sooooooo tired and would rather just stay here and read posts.
Hugs!!
Denise
I had my sleeve gastrectomy about a year ago and Monday I start the liquid protein diet for the switch portion. My diet will be a bit less restricted than yours but I'll cut down to pretty much zero carbs in order to try to maximize weight loss early on. The switch can be a little bit less effective when the sleeve has been in place for a while. So on that scientific basis, in the last week, I've been eating stuff I haven't had, and won't have again. Two nights ago, I popped one of those mini-bags of popcorn and ate that! Yumm and tonight we had spaghette bol, and I usually eat the sauce. Tonight I had some of the pasta!
I don't think I'll so so far as to have any candy, but that's not my favorite stuff anyway. Buttered noodles!
All the best in your journey!

Dennie--I was completely cracking up at your "CDO" (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) tag on your post...SO FUNNY! I have never cared much about food---sweets are my downfall....we could have anything to eat anywhere & all I am thinking about is dessert. I have always been that way.....I won't touch leftovers in the fridge, but put the rest of a birthday cake in there & watch out...I will eat little bites of it till it's gone. But, once I have the RNY I am kissing that all g'bye & won't look back...I am really excited to move out of the control that it has over me. Such a sick addiction.....
Good luck w/your switch portion....Micheala.
I agree with ya on the eggs, they are pure evil and delicious at the same time! I think you are on the right track. Everyone mourns those things they will miss! There are still food items from my pre-surgery days that call my name on a regular basis! Krispy Kreme doughnuts yell for me everytime I drive by.....
"Scotty, come and get me!"
"You know 1 won't hurt!"
Luckily, I stay away from the place! But, a suggestions, and it's only that...a suggestion! Where food has become your friend, confidant, and father confessor over the years, treat it for what it is...nutrition! I had to change my way of thinking on this also. Eat to live, don't live to eat!
Micheala, I love your humor and attitude! Keep it up!
Oh yeah, when you are 6-9 months out...look me up and I'll share some dessert recipes that you can try. Only in moderation that is!
Thanks Scott! I guess we all have our vices....and I am actually looking forward to the day when none of those foods have such control over me.....I am going to be like Mel Gibson at the end of Bravehart yelling "FREEDOM"...of course, I won't be stretched in vices and bleeding from my pores---it might just feel like it ;).
And YES....6-9 monts out we will chat about dessert recipes I can try in moderation (that is, if I even want dessert again...maybe there's no need to tempt fate!).....
Take care. Micheala.
With that said I had the meal of a life time and all the candy and junk food you can think of before my surgery....it was more like a going away than the night before surgery. I say enjoy it while you can because when your supervised diet ends so will they.
No one here blames you or enveys you, they all however, do understand you. SO eat one more Cadburys cream egg for me cause those were one of my favorites as well, I got hooked on them in England when they first came out in the 70's.
Happy eating
Susan
