We have sent my information to the insurance company... and now I am in a dilemma of trying to pick a surgeon to trust my life with. I am leaning toward Dr. Olsen at Centennial...has anyone on here had him or heard of him?

HELP!!!

I believe that either on Centennial's site or here on OH there are comments about the docs from patients.  I'm sure Dr. Olsen's patients will chime in here.   Just dig into this site and do some exploring for more comments.  Or attend one of Centennials's many support groups that they have throughout the state and find his patient's there.   The groups welcome pre and post op's alike.  Best Wishes!

Hi Breanna, I didn't have him, but I've heard great things about him from prior patients.  Plus Centennial is a great hospital for bariatrics.

May God be with you on this journey

I attended one of his seminars prior to my wls.  I liked him and considered having him as my surgeon.  I later chose Dr. Houston after hearing him speak.  I attended about 5 different seminars from area hospitals.  Anyway, I suggest that you visit around to other seminars as well, including Dr. Dyer and Houston with the same group...  do your research and then choose the one you feel is right for you.  Each person's journey is a very personal choice...

I did have problems after wls with my gallbladder and I called the after hours office line.  Dr. Olsen called me back in the wee hours of the morning, gave some advice, and later Dr. Houston conferred with him on my treatment.  He is a qualified surgeon, and I would have had him as my surgeon as stated, but I felt that Dr. H was MY choice.  Again, you must make the decision that is right for you...

Every one on the OH board hopefully will have raves about his/her own surgeon or program...  and we are not trying to sway you one way or the other... just saying to do your research and visit seminars, ask questions, etc.

Breanna--Definitely do your research, as I am sure you are.  I have chosen Dr. Houston at Centennial (same group as Dr. Olsen)--after hearing him speak at the seminar, & reading about him, I found him to be the best choice for me.  Plus, as soon as I found out he doesn't do drains, he was the one for me!

Good luck...it's an important decision...best wishes. Micheala.

yes, choosing a surgeon is very personal. I agree talking with patients and meeting the surgeon at a seminar.  I just wanted to say that many surgeons don't place drains on all patients, so please be sure if you pick a surgeon for that reason, ask all the surgeons you are considering if they do.  Just because one patient had them doesn't mean all of their patients do.  Just make sure you do your homework.  good luck!

Research, research, and then research some more!  But, that's what you are doing by asking questions!  Good for you.

I had Dr Dyer from the same group.  I believe thier care for me was top notch!  I can't answer your question, but I'm glad you asked!

Good luck and keep us posted!
Scott thumbs up
