Dr. Colquitt Patients?
By no means am I trying to negate anyone's successes with Dr. Colquitt but I was advised against going there. Yes, I went to Dr. Boyce at Parkwest but I'm just going on what I was told. Many many people have had wonderful outcomes and what I was told was in regards to Blount Memorial Hospital rather than the surgeon. Before surgery, I was being refitted for my bi-pap and my resp therapist reiterated it. When it comes down to it, the decision is yours and I'm sure that you will do great anywhere. I have a friend who went there and had a great experience.
Please don't think I'm being negative I just wanted to share. Good luck in your journey!!

Hi,
I had my RNY done by Dr. Colquitt on January 6, 2009. My husband and I really like and trust him and his staff. The surgical group are very prepared and they insist on preop training, including nutrition/exercise training, seminar, body image, self esteem, addictions and support groups. All my questions were answered leading up to the surgery.
Before and after the surgery the staff was excellent and never let me be in pain but made sure I was up walking as soon as possible. They went over everything with me and were very helpful when I had to stay an extra night due to nausea and vomiting.
I was home two days when the n/v returned and I became dehydrated. Dr. Colquitt met me in the office, and admitted me from there. I arrived on the floor at 2:30pm still dry heaving and feeling just terrible. Unfortunately, I arrived at shift change and even though I called the nurses station every 15 to 20 minutes asking for a nurse, they did not come in start my IV and give me medication until almost 6pm. Yes I know now I should have called the house supervisor but was trying to be a good little patient!
So that's my story. Happy with Dr. Colquitt but not so much with the floor staff.
Hope this helps.

I had my surgery on January 9, 2006. He was my surgeon and because he had a no mortality rate I felt he was the best for me. In 2003 I was told to lose the weight or die within 2 years. I was referred to Dr. Colquitt but at the time he wasn't taking patients with Medicare or Medicaid. Plus he had just started to the procedures that April. In 2004 I had to see him again for something else, I was really impressed with him and his staff. When I found out in 2005 that I had leukemia, I saw him a month later (Sept 05), he said he would do my surgery providing my blood counts were in normal range and a referral from my oncologist. She was more then willing to do that providing he made sure I received my chemo pills while in the hospital. He's a quiet Dr. but up front and to the point. He does have a sense of humor at times.
I had to stay in the hospital for 5 days as my potassium levels kept dropping plus I had to have blood. We didn't know that it was the chemo pills that were depleting my potassium levels. I was over an hours drive away, so when after 2 weeks I got really sick and couldn't keep anything down, he had me admitted before I even got to the hospital. I didn't have to go thru ER, I was taken right to my room and put on IV saline and potassium. I was there a week. He still has a no mortality rate. I had no complications from the surgery. The staff both at his office and at Blount Memorial are highly trained, and were very helpful.
You can't go wrong having him for your surgeon. BTW, I was denied by 11 surgeons prior to finding out I was diabetic and had leukemia. He did a great job. I just saw him this month for my 3 year and he's proud that I have had no further problems with my leukemia.
He's a Christian and he prays for each of his patients. Maybe not allowed but you can feel it thru him.
May God travel with you on this new journey.

I cannot give you any info on Dr Colquitt, but I did use Dr Ray in his office. He was great and the staff is really nice. I never had any problems with my surgery. the hospital stay was not the greatest, it wasn't the fault of all the staff just 1 nurse in particlar. I was on the ICU floor for my whole stay because there were not anyother beds available on other florrs due to the weather (my surgery was January 21, 2008) the weather was terrible and there were alot of accidents. the nurse was on the 7-3 shift and she was not very nice. I'm not sure if she didn't approve of the surgery or just is simply a noncaring person ( definitly wrong profession for her) all the other nurses and shifts were very kind an helpful. I have not regretted my choice of surgeons or hospital. Their program is really great.
I am 1year out today and I made my goal in 8months and 1 day and I feel wonderful and I wish I would of done this before.
