I stopped at Walgreens yesterday and while standing in the checkout line, I glanced at the side candy/candles/aspirin/ whatever you want to call it display as they sell a little of everything! Anyway, an orange wrapper caught my eye.  I immediately thought, "Oh that's the new reese's...."  It looks exactly like the supreme protein bars.  Well anyway, the word "supreme" stuck out and I jumped towards it saying, "OMG! When did you start selling these?"  The clerk said that over the past year they have had so many requests for them, that Walgreens everywhere are starting to sell the Supreme protein bars, both in the quadruple caramel and the peanut butter.  I was really shocked, they are the smaller size bars for 1.99.  While I don't know if that's a good price because I have the box, you may want to give it a try.

How far out from surgery should you be before you try one of these protein bars?  I'm six months out and would love to get one but not if it's too soon.  I'm still in the loosing stage.  Need to drop another 40 pounds.

Thanks for being on the lookout for all of us.

Baboo... Can I be just as honest here as I possibly can?  I don't know the answer to your question...  I did not eat protein bars during my weight loss stage.  Occasionally I did a very low calorie, low carb, low sugar bar but the Supreme protein bars do have a higher number of calories... so having said that...  Here would be my suggestion.  We will wait to see what everyone else says...  I like to cut mine in slithers.  (at the most, 1/4 inch) and store them in a baggy or a plastic container.  When I want something sweet, and we all have those times, I will get a piece, or two if I really REALLY want some...  and store the rest away.  This particular bar is high in sugar alcohols, and if you eat all of one, you will probably suffer from a hurting tummy, diarrhea and gas.  Luckily, they now make the smaller bars, but one time I got overly excited when I first found these bars...  ate half the first night, half the next morning and within that 12 hr period, it was too much for my digestive system.  I got so sick that I had to call in to work and stay home that day...I also carry protein bars in my purse for times that I experience low blood sugar.  I've gotten them out of my purse while standing in line at Goodwill and ate two or three bites, and folded the rest up for another day.  They are good to have on hand for times that you are unable to get to food if/when you need it such as the low blood sugar episodes... My best option for this are the Rock N Roll peanut bars as they are like Paydays, do not melt and have that sweet/salty like a Payday bar.  Stats appear  little better than the supremes.

Hi Baboo,

Protein Bars were not on the acceptable food list that was provided by my surgeon‘s office. You may want to check yours and see….

I know when I tried to diet before my WLS, protein bars always stalled my weight loss. I kept trying to incorporate them into my weight loss efforts because they are easy and convenient and seemed to me from reading the nutrition value on the wrapper the bar contained what I needed. But invariably there is something in them that is counterproductive to my weight loss efforts.

In my quest searching for something easy, convenient and that would get me through in a crunch if I was out somewhere stuck between meal times and I started to feel my blood sugar levels drop I made sure I kept a pack of 100 calorie Almonds and/or individual wrapped string cheese.
