One of Our Own Needs Prayer
I was hoping that I did not have to post this... but now I am. You all know Mike (my bestest friend in the entire world) whose screen name is mchael9167 here. He had surgery two months prior to mine and we have gone through this journey together, not just cause we're best friends, but because we were also roommates for 5 years and during the time we had our surgeries.
Mike needs our prayers. Last week he was bit by a spider. He went to a hospital the next day to be with his sister who was in surgery. While there, he looked at magazines, sat in the waiting room, etc. And, his leg got to bothering him where the spider bite was. He reached into his pant leg, scratched the bite (not knowing it was a bite at the time) and there was a blistery place that burst open... thus, allowing MRSA to enter his open flesh.
He is in the hospital and has had a procedure done to remove the affected area from the spider. The surgeon believed it to be MRSA as well and sure enough, the lab work showed that it was. Please keep him in your prayers.
Mikey, get better! I need you!
Mike is responding well to the iv antibiotics and doing well. I am not going to see him until he is all better from this because I work in a hospital and I am afraid of carrying some kind of germ or infection... I could not live with myself if I knew I made him sicker in some way... But I am keeping in phone contact with him. He is in great spirits... his nurses have all been wonderful (WHY does HE always get the BEST nurses? I got Atilla the Hun once... who made my momma cry)... but anyway... that's another story all together! I don't feel as worrysome as I did... but still there is concern... you know how much I love my Mikey.
I am very sorry to hear about Mike. He is in our thoughts and prayers. I know how much he means to you and it is difficult to see someone we love and care about suffer...
Mike for sure is going through something really difficult right now. We had to have Kevin in the hospital several times this past year. Not only with all of his kidney problems, one time he was diagnosed with cellulitus. A few weeks after we got him home from that hospital stay, his arm began to swell up real bad. I finally talked him into going back to the hospital because I was convinced the cellulitus had resurfaced. The doctors didn't think it was cellulitus this time and called in the infectious disease control people. At that point they determined he had been bitten by a Brown Recluse Spider. This was really bad. I had never seen flesh start eating away like that. Kevin really suffered and spent another week in the hospital. Spider bites are bad things.
Please let Mike know we are thinking about him.... I haven't seen him in a while....
Yes they think it was a brown recluse spider. Isn't it so hard to believe that a tiny insect like that can inflict so much pain and negative side effects that it eats away flesh? Oh my it is just hard to believe.
Mike went home today at 5. He is doing good, in great spirits, and I bet he will check in to the board as he can't go anywhere for awhile... so he will surely be surfing the net. I told him that he's got a ten day vacation since he can't go to any of his jobs!
