My One Year Surgiversary

Well folks, today is my one year surgiversary.  As of today, I am 11 pounds below my goal weight and absolutely love my WLS.  I truly wish I had sought out WLS sooner than I did, but hindsight is 20/20 and you can't go backwards in time.  I'm thankful for all the changes I've experienced over the last year and all the new things I've experienced as a result of my weight loss.  As I write this, I am thrilled to say that I am recuperating from plastic surgery.  Yes, I went ahead and had plastic surgery before my one year mark.  The reason being is because I had already reached my goal, I didn't have any more to lose per se, and I was starting to have a lot of body image issues with all of the hanging skin and I had to do what was right for me.  Unfortunately, 2 weeks post-op, I had a gallbladder attack that resulted in me having to have that removed on January 2.  So, I'm also recovering from that as well.  But all in all, neither surgery was bad.

As I've said in the past, although I don't post to OH often, I do lurk frequently and read the posts.  There are a lot of newbies taking the first steps toward a better life and the best advice I can give you is continue to do your research.  Please don't let this be board be your only source of information.  Don't get me wrong, yes, there is a lot of good information here.  But you still need to do your research on many different levels.  For those that are in different stages of their journey - keep on keepin' on.  You are doing a good job.  You know you may hit some stalls or some speed bumps - that is to be expected.  When that happens, pull out the materials your surgeon gave you and go over them again and again - refresh your memory.  Sometimes we get a bit too comfortable with what we are doing and we kind of slip off the path and we just need to refresh our memory.  For those that have gotten to the point where I'm at, again, keep doing what you're doing and occassionaly, you will still need to pull out those materials again and refresh your memory as to what you need to be doing, especially if you see those numbers on the scale moving in the wrong direction or the waist band on your pants starting to get a tad snug.

We've all been equipped with adequate tools to be successful WLS patients, we just have to be willing to use those tools to the best of our ability.

I hope everyone has a great day and thanks for being a part of my journey.  May your road to success be a great one.

Congrats on the surgiversary and the plastics!  Hope everything is going well with both surgeries.  Did you tell me you go to Dr. McDowell on Friday?  I do too.  It's the earliest appt. I could get after my spell on Sunday.  Maybe we'll see each other.  I'd love to see you.  Keep up the good work and take care!!

Thanks Melissa.  Everything is going great.  I actually had to reschedule my appt. with Dr. McDowell to next Friday.  Hope you are doing better and are back on track.  Please keep me posted on what is going on and how you are feeling.

Thanks Cheryl.  The picture was taken in early December and will go in our church directory.  I'm recovering nicely.  Am having a bit of trouble with one of my incisions, but it was discussed before surgery and was expected due to thin skin issues.  All in all, I'm doing great and progressing nicely.  Hope you and Phil are doing well and staying warm.  Take care.

Congratulations, Wendy. You have done wonderfully and I hope at my one year anniversary I can say I'm close to goal. You gave some good advice, I believe about going over and over the surgeon's paperwork and refreshing your memory frequently. Thats sound like a good idea to help a person stay on track. I've been over my notebook dozens of time since I got it but I can imagine that I will refer to it almost on a daily basis to make sure I stay compliant. You have done a great job.
Blessings,
Karen

Thanks Karen, I appreciate it.  It won't be long and we will all be reading a similar post from you.  You be sure to keep up the good work and my thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue on your journey.
