Psych Eval--One Year On
Hi All~
Some of you have been keeping up with my ongoing battle since last winter to get psych approval for surgery. My psychologist hasn't approved me but she hasn't not approved me either! Well, she promises to give me an answer this Wednesday. I am really scared at this point. I mean I've done everything asked of me this past year and even lost 20 lbs on top of the 30 I lost before I signed with the clinic. Why has she dragged this out for so long if she was going to approve me in the first place? Then again, why would she drag it out if she was going to turn me down? I could, and have, driven myself crazy worrying about it. She never has given me a real reason why it was taking so long. Whenever I would bring the subject up she would sidestep or change the subject entirely. Everyone I've talked to that has been through the process says that I've been jerked around. Maybe I should have changed psychologists a long time ago but I just didn't want to go through all the testing again and now my new insurance won't pay for the psych testing. I just don't know what I'll do if she turns me down. Let's hope she doesn't.

I'll be hoping you get a good result from the psychologist! I think it's very rude, the way you're being treated.
The psychologist doesn't have the final say, I think. They give their recommendations to the surgeon, who decides. I know they won't approve if the person's intelligence isn't such that they don't understand what they're agreeing to, or that they can't deal with the postoperative requirements.
I've never understood how they think they can learn so much from such strange, random questions, anyway. I kind of wanted to answer some of the questions like my daughter answers the survey/questionnaires on myspace, etc. "I hate people who: Pretend to be elephants" But I'm sure that wouldn't have been very good in my own interests. heh heh. Fun, though!

First off, I would like to say that my hats are off to you and pretty much everything else that I am wearing....
I am one that has followed your progress and kept up with you during these trying times and I have to say that you have way exceeded any expectation that I would have had for any human being on the planet..
Trust me, I would have given up a long time ago and found a new evaluator that would have agreed with my point of view...

Hi Sweetie, my therapist that I was seeing when I lived in Morristown says she doesn't give anyone approval until one year of therapy has been done. She says that way any under lining problems can be taken care of before you take the big step. Even if I hadn't had the surgery and was seeing her, she would not give me a yes or no until after one year. Luckily Dr. Colquitt accepted my shrinks letter instead. Since I am still under her care every three months. Yes I travel back and forth from Nashville to Morristown to see her. Be patient just a few more hours or days and you will have your answer.
