Hey Gang--who's been up and moving today?

I did 20 minutes on the elliptical and my first 20 minute walk of the day (yawn, such a predictable routine!)  My plan is for one more 20 minute walk, if not more.

While I was at home on break, I moved around more as I piddled around the house.  Now that I'm back at the old desk job, I'm finding my joints are freezing up from sitting still so long.  I hate this!  So I might squeeze in a walk through the tunnels on campus just to get some movement in.

Yesterday--final totals were 10,442 strides on my pedometer and a total of 71 minutes of exercise between elliptical and walks.  I also did my stretchy band leg exercises.

Tomorrow--goals are 10K strides, 20 minutes or more on the elliptical and more stretchy bands on the lower body.

Well, not as much as you but a lot for me.  I'm trying to wean myself off the NSAIDS, so I  am beginning to feel it in my hips and THUMB!  But I walked up and down the stairs at MJ high school(they are pretty long flights) Not much but more than usual...erika

Ain't arthritis fun?   I hope you don't have to do any weight bearing exercises with your thumb!  Youch! (hee hee)

Good job on the stairs, especially with hip pain, Erika.  And every little bit counts.  More than usual is a good thing!

Hopefully weight loss and exercise will offset that inflammation pain.  At least that's what I'm hoping for!

Good job on getting some exercise!
Denise

Yeah that's my one of my main goals with the RNY--is to be able to excercise enough to help my arthritis.   (Actually, I do crochet with that thumb!)

You know, my diabetes dietician recommended taking up knitting or crocheting!  She said it gives you something to do with your hands (as opposed to reaching into a bag of chips) and keeps your mind occupied.  I may have to do that!

My feet, knees and left hip bug the daylights out of me.  I am hoping the weight loss will help me too.  I did some time doing PT in the pool at Dayani and it was wonderful!  But over time it became too time consuming, inconvenient and I carried so much stuff (clothes, towel, shampoo, soap, work stuff) that I stopped going.  Oh, if I could have a swim spa installed!

If you can have access to a pool and do water stuff, it is great for arthritis.  I do the elliptical because it is no impact.  I make myself walk, even though it hurts, because it's convenient and free.

And this crazy rainy weather doesn't help joints any, either!

I did 4 miles on my recumbent bike, looking forward to a day without rain so I can walk outside.

I also am back at work (school) so I walk a great deal running back and forth between classes checking on my behavior kids.  I need to get a pedometer to see how many steps I take each day.

Since the rain is still pouring down, I am going to plan on more of the walking about school tomorrow and then my bike in the evening, maybe I'll make it to 4.5 miles tomorrow.    I add a bit more every couple of days.

Next.....

You SHOULD get a pedometer, Amy!  I bet you'd be surprised at how much all that running back and forth between classes adds up!

My job has transitioned over the past few years from running back and forth between a lab and my office to just sitting on my butt all day in my office.  I'm quite envious of you having a job where you actually get to move around!!!

I'm with you on the rain rain go away!  Jeeeez!!!  This seems like the gloomiest winter ever and I'd practically kill for some sun!  Even my dogs won't go outside in this icky weather.

Good job on the bike.  I need to follow your lead and start bumping up the time or the intensity on my elliptical but for now, just dragging my sorry butt out of bed to use it is the first step!

Yaaay on getting in that exercise!

A little late, but better than not at all,
Tuesday, I did get in my 1mile walk, but no weights.

The pedimeter is a great way to keep up with  moving, I average 7500-10000/day.

goals for Wednesday, to gym and walk 1 mile, bike 2-3 miles and lower body weights if time permits.
