A requirement of Vanderbilt

Yaaay, another piece of living breathing evidence (YOU) to make me realize this is the right thing to do.  I have diabetes and sleep apnea and I will think of you on this journey and hope to get my conditions in remission, too.

I think the biggest thing is following the rules.  I met a post op bandster and she has lost about 120 pounds total and she too said she followed the protocol to the letter.  Complications happen, there's not much you can do about them.  But some can be made worse when you don't follow the instructions.

Like on some other board a person was wondering if eating almost 2 hamburgers (meat only) a few weeks out from surgery was okay.  ???  You're given the tool but it's up to you what to do with it.  You and Barb, just to name a few, have taken your tool and run with it.

I have quite enjoyed my appointments and can't wait for them to move to their new facility at 100 Oaks in the spring.  Right now they feel a tad temporary in the old eye clinic.  But the new place should be fabulous!

At goal weight in 5 months.  Maaaaaan, that's incredible!!!

I can't wait to get off my Byetta!!!  No more needles, please!

Thanks for being a big inspiration!

Hey Bob... speaking of Vanderbilt.. you will get a kick out of this story.

You know Tim.  He isn't too verbal.  If I ask him "How does this look?" He says "Okay."  Well to a woman, Okay means "ennnhh I could take it or leave it."  Sometimes, okay means I don't really like it.  something else might be better.  To Tim, Okay could mean WOW ALMIGHTY THAT LOOKS AWESOME! But he won't bat an eye.

SOOooo... the other day I was painting the kitchen.  I stood back and looked... He came in and said, "I think this looks REALLLY GOOD."  Uhh I am shocked.  Then he dropped the bomb.

"You know what these colors are, right?" he asks....

"No, what?"  I reply.

"Vanderbilt."

BWAHAHA!  NO WONDER HE LIKED THE BLACK CABINETS AND GOLD WALLS, and said, "I think this looks REALLY GOOD."

I think you Vandy patients have brainwashed me.  Have you been typing in subliminal messages in to your posts?  lol.  That is funny.

Good gracious, bob!  Those handles would cost a fortune for all the cabinets!  We spent I don't know how much just on the black screws to put all the hardware back on!  the handles we have on there now are about $3 each...  they are brand new and the previous owner had them put on...  I was thinking of changing the top cabinet handles to match... as they are not the long 2 screw handles but the round one screw handles...  and it was going to cost a fortune!

Well although I ended up having surgery in Mexico I started at VU.  I tell people all the time that I feel very blessed for having started there.  I literally went thru VU all the way up to surgery.  So yes I had 3 NUT visits.  First was group session to introduce the pre-op diet and begin the conversation on what to expect immediately post and later after surgery.  The other two meetings were to work on me losing the weight I needed prior to surgery.  Jennifer was a great resource for information as I did my research and prepared for the changes post surgery.   My appts ended up a month apart purely because of scheduling....they are busy.  I had a wonderful exp at VU---if my insurance had not changed I would have stayed on point with Dr. Richards.  I have reccommended the program to several people.  I think I was fortunate that I got the best of both worlds...I got the preparation and the education from VU and still ended up with VSG like I wanted from a wonderful team with Dr. Joya.

Congrats on your decision and I wish you a smooth journey on this new path.  WLS is such a blessing.  We look forward to you joining us here on the loser's bench....
