I started my pre-op diet today.  Vanderbilt  requires 8 days of nothing but 6 packets of carnation instant breakfast  and 2 cups of broth.

It is now 5:30pm and I have the worst friggin headache and i just feel weak.  ugh.  please tell me this gets better.

I checked my vitals and my blood pressure and heart rate look fine.  boo.  I feel like a baby but this sucks.

It gets better, the first two to three days are rough, you can take Tylenol for the headaches, and drink lots of water!   I had a hard time with the Vandy pre-op diet the first few days too, but hang in there, it will get better!!!!!

The 8 days will go by quickly if you keep busy!

Good luck!!  I'll be thinking of you!!

You can DO THIS! I'm right behind you waiting for my appointment.  Look at all the before and after photos--that always encourages me.

Alright Missy!  You know, I've always wanted to be the old geezer who say...Alright Missy!

Anywho, here's the biggest piece of advice you will ever get from me.  You probably already know what it is, but your gonna get it anyway...

BREATHE!!!!!

The first day of the liquid diet is the worst. But is is also the first, of a series of changes that we make in order to be successful!  I know it's hard, but remember...

BREAHTE!!!!!!

Hang in there girl!  It will be alright!

 okay.  I'm breathing.

Hubby took me out to go walk around a bit.  It helped to get me out of the house and stop focusing on that fridge  and pantry.  We also just totally cleaned out the fridge.  I feel much better now.

this will be okay.  It's certainly not the worst thing I will experience over the next several months.

thank you all.  y'all are swell.  :)

Missy try taking your vitamins it may give you that boost of energy you need.

Your body is going into starvation mode, NO you are not starving but your body is feeding off itself as it is use to more food. As for your headache drink some H2O you will feel better....Promise

Congrats and good luck

Missy regarding Vandy, did you have to see the nutrionist 3 times?  There's one on the board asking if they are a month apart, I told her it may be 2 before surgery and one after surgery.  But I wasn't sure.  I know my surgeon had me see the nut,. once before and once afterwards.

I agree with Scott and the others, drink plenty of water and you can take Tylenol, and don't forget to just breathe.  I am used to food after being out for 3 years, but I've had to be on clear liquids since last Monday a week ago for a colon test on Christmas Eve morning.  I started getting shaky as I am only allowed water, clear juice, and one yogurt a day.  If you can't see thru the glass like grade juice or tea then I can't have it.  But my sugar got low so I took a bite of the cream cheese balls I was making.  That helped me and my sugar.  Plus it was a little protein.  It's rough, but you can do it.  We've all been there, it's to shrink a fatty liver prior to surgery.

Just think of that smaller body come the New Year and come summer.  That will help you.

May God travel with you on this journey.
Kathy

Check with your Nut, try tropical Sugar Free popcycles, Take a Sugar Free Instant Jello Make it up add a protein bullet to it, drink it like a glass of tea. You may even add a small amount of chipped ice. But like I said check first with the nut. This is what helped me make it through and I hope that it helps you too. good luck sweetie.
