Diagnosed today
I received my test results today and I do have sleep apnea. I finally have my first appointment for evaluation with the surgeon on January 29 just when I thought things couldnt get any slower I start to make progress I am so excited . My BMI is 42 and I have sleep apnea so I meet the criteria to have Lap Band so I am hoping that I will have no trouble with the insurance company. Will keep you posted .

Welcome to the club! Co-morbidities girls unite! I have sleep apnea too, but I don't tolerate the CPAP at all. I can't breathe through my nose and even had sinus surgery to help with that, to no avail. I also have a mask that covers my mouth and nose, but I can't sleep on my back, so it is always leaking where my face hits the pillow. I look forward to getting rid of sleep apnea with weight loss--it's the source of most of my problems, like fatigue.
Things do tend to feel like they're going faster once you have that first appointment with the surgeon. Actually I've been going to support groups, dietician classes, nurse visits, psych evals, etc. since early October. Now I'm just trying to get off the last 5-ish pounds BC BS requires (10% of total body weight loss for approval) and for my doctor to write my letter of medical necessity.
The team at Vandy is great. I've been waiting for that letter since October. The Nurse Coordinator Michelle P. got involved and has contacted him to get off his duff and write the letter. In my experience so far, the team really takes care of their patients.
I hope you are able to make the January band support group! It meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Not many post ops come, but you can definitely ask questions of the nurse, see what the band actually looks like (they have a demo model you can touch), etc. Plus it gets me motivated about the whole process.
Congrats on getting the ball rolling--it'll go faster than you realize. Keep us posted on your progress!!!
