Can anyone tell me if medicare will cover removal of skin and tissue from your thighs if it is medically necessary?  The doctor is concerned about my safety walking with my legs in the state they are in right now.
If anyone can help me I would be grateful.
You can contact me via [email protected] or at iamtina.com

Thanks so much
Tina

I don't know about tissue removal from thighs, but one of the post ops at our last band support group said that you could get skin removal on your stomach covered by insurance if you had recurrent yeast infections under the hanging skin.

Not sure if that's 100% true, or if you can get the same problem with hanging skin on your legs, but you never know!

I would hope that if it is practically dangerous to walk that your doctor could write some kind of letter of necessity and at least try submitting it for approval.

Good luck!

It depends on what your insurance carrier and your employer has decided...  just as in the gastric bypass.  Some employers have chosen to let it be an allowed coverage if medically  necessary while others state that regardless of the reason or problem, it is not a covered service.  I would find out the exact medical procedure name of that (I don't know what it is... ) and then call your insurance carrier and request the medical necessity criteria on it.

I did have insurance to cover my abdominoplasty due to meeting the guidelines.  Mine hung down past the symphsis pubis (pubic bone) and they did pay.  Also, I had some break down in the tissue with rashes.
