woo hoo! Approved
Hello everyone! I have been lurking around here forever. First joined when I tried the first time in 03/04. obviously denied. jerks at bluecare network... anyways...
My DH and I have been working through Aetna's requirements since August. I got submitted last Wednesday and got approved on Monday. first time. All I could do was cry.... which was bad b/c I was standing at the front desk at my work slobbering with guests in front of me. (I work for Marriott).
I am waiting to get the date. I am with Vanderbilt. Dr. Brandon Williams. surgery will be the last week of December. uhm. when? you mean in like 2 and a half weeks. great googly moogly!
I've been "working on it" for so long, I don't even know where to start now that its "go time".
any suggestions on what to take to the hospital?

Congratz on getting approved!!!!
I didn't take anything to the hospital except toothbrush, deoderant, a big shirt that covered the back of the lovely hospital gown so I could walk, and comfy clothes to wear home.
I don't know if every hospital has the lovely gowns that come with their own heaters, but Vandy did, and they were wonderful!! I can't remember the name, but they attach to this air hose, and warm air surounds you, it was the best because you know how cold hospitals can be.
My surgeon was Dr. Richards, but I have heard good things about Dr. Williams too, so you are also in good hands! I am not a professional at the whole WLS but I did just go through it at Vandy, so if either of you think of anything I will try to do my best to remember.
Again congratz to both of you, and just think we all got the best Christmas gift ever! Longer, healthier lives!

Congrats on your approval! I took everything but the kitchen sick to the hospital and used almost none of it! The most important thing is shoes--you WILL be walking those halls! Oh, and a robe! i would invest in 2 other things though. www.bariacticeating.com has a bariatric sample pack of tons of protein, its great to get before surgery. Also, there is a book on www.amazon.com called "It Ain't Over til the Thin Lady Sings". It is written by an addictions counselor who had RNY. I got it about 6 months after surgery, but it would have been most effective before and early on. Again, congratulations!
Hey hon, Congratz on your approval, you are in great Hands when you go to Vandy, They are wonderful, and so is the surgical team. They stay right with ya , just awesome!!!!! You are gonna do great !!!! They even had a young man come around to the rooms and seranade ya(sp) Trina was with me. It really brought my spirits up, and the kindness that the staff showed was wonderful!!!! You are checked on constinuously, but still make sure that you have someone stay with you. The staff are very supportive of this too. Your comfort is the #1 priority!!!!

Oh so another lurker has come out of hiding.........lol Great to see you posting and congrats on your date. It will be here before you know it. I too had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Williams thru the Walk from Obesity during the last few months. You are in great hands with him and Vandy.
Now one of the things that you must do, is get out to one of our events and meet some of us loser's. If you have been lurking, then you should know about the Lunch Bunch and Dinner Club that we have monthly. So you need to come to one or both of them, you won't be dissapointed by no means. This way you can talk with folks and can help with questions, do's & dont's etc. We always have a blast when we meet.
As far as what to take to the hospital, the least the better. This will make it easier on DH and other family members also. Like others have said, you will be walking very soon after surgery, so house shoes and maybe a good comfortable pair of jogging pants to help with the lovely gown that they provide you...you know those things sometimes tie and sometimes don't and it can get a little cool back there...........lol Once you get in there and out of surgery, if you think of something that you need, then someone can run out and get it for you.
So as Mr. Scott would say, set back, hold on, and breath, you are in for one heck of a roller coaster ride. You will do fine, just do as they say, and walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip. Keep us posted on your journey and if you have any other questions, just jump right in and ask away.
