Nashville/Duodenal Switch

Hi there. I'm getting ready to have the DS up in Kentucky with Dr. Husted. As someone who had a high weight oif nearly 500 pounds, I came to the conclusion that the DS has the best chance of allowing me to live something like a normal, healthy life.

So, I was hoping to meet some Nashville DSers to show me the ropes, allow me to call upon them for wisdom and experience, and maybe even hang out. I'm happy to meet anyone for fun and hanging out and comparing notes, but I'd especially like to be able to pick the brains of some local DSers.

Congrats on your decision to have Weight Loss Surgery!  I had RNY, but I'm sure there are several DS'ers who can jump in and answer your questions!

Hey Sarah, glad to hear that you have made your decision to have the WLS. I had the LapBand and I know very little about the DS. I'm sure that you will see several on here that have had it. Just jump right in and ask away. Keep watching the board for all the get togethers and just come on and join us at some or all of them. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Sarah,

I had the DS with Dr. Spaw @ Baptist.  I live close to Cookeville.
I would be glad to try and answer any questions you might have.
I LOVE my DS.  I'll be 6 months out on Dec 9th & I have lost 119 lbs
so far.  I go for my first labs on Thursday & am hoping for good results.
Waiting to hear from ya.  PM me if you like.

You might want to post on the DS forum.  From what I understand, Dr. Husted practiced in Nashville, moved to Cali, and is now in KY.  I've seen his patients rave about him.  There may be some of his Nashville patients who will see your message on the DS boards.  I'm only 8 weeks out, yet I'll answer any questions you have as best as I can.  Unlike Susan O' I don't quite love my DS, but I'm hoping to.  See, even though I knew it was major surgery going into it, I forgot I'm not superwoman.  I don't regret it, I just want this post-op malaise to be gone.

Best wishes on your surgery & PM me anytime.

I'm trying to remind myself of that, too. It is major surgery, there are risks. Everything won't be hunky dory right off that bat. But at least I'll finally have a chance at a life where I can have fun, and movement, and not have carrying around the weight of three bodies on one skeleton sucking up all of my energy.

With a bit of luck, we'll both pull through.

Ya ever see that cartoon of the vulture who says, "Patience, hell.  I'm gonna kill something now!"  Well, patience has never been my greatest virtue.   But, yeah, it is gonna be great not lugging around all that extra weight.  Even this early out, I can tell a difference in my not so bad knee.  The one that isn't already bone-on-bone.  I just want my new stomach to settle down and get with the program. NOW!

I know we'll both pull through, too.
