How many calories will you take in today?

Thanksgiving is normally a day that is known for overabundance. The average American will consume between 4,500 and 7,100 calories based on estimates from the Calorie Control Council and National Institutes of Health.

Tips for surviving the Thanksgiving day feast:

  • Sample everything in small quantities - fill up your plate with small quantities of everything that looks good
  • Savor the flavor - take very small forkfuls and focus on the flavor, texture and aroma of what you are eating
  • Eat your protien- try to avoid the high calorie casseroles and choose chicken or turkey and some garlic and fresh herbs
  • Break tradition - bring a healthy choice for a side dish if you know that the options will be limited
  • Count your blessings - remember to enjoy the meal, but enjoy your friends and family members most of all
  • Let it go - if you do lose your resolve and go wild, it is just one day. Do not beat yourself up. Just get back on course on Friday and eat a little lighter.

Good Evening Love,

I think I did pretty well today.  I did not over indulge like I feared I would.  I don't know why I thought I would, knowing that ALice would not let me eat too much anyway!   I did sample everything that looked good and stayed away from the really good stuff - like Michael's Chocolate Pecan pie!  All in all I think we both did well.

How did ya'll do?

Being my first Thanksgiving as a post-op, I think that I did really good.

I had a slice of turkey (brined of course), a spoon of potatoes, a spoon of cornbread dressing, some corn all with some gravy and a very small slice of sugar free pecan pie with a small scoop of sugar free Cool Whip

I was stuffed!!

When I say spoon of, I mean a teaspoon of...

I cooked it all so I wanted to make sure that everything was good, and it was!!

In years past I would have had several slices of turkey, huge scoops of potatoes, dressing, corn, mac and cheese, a couple of rolls and a gallon of gravy.  Then later in the evening I would have a couple more slices of turkey on a sandwich with more dressing and a couple of slices of each pie.  Huge difference from even last year!

Cheers!

I was hoping there would be a thread where we could all check in with our results from yesterday!

Tim & I went to Calhouns in Gatlinburg, where we ate last year.  I was in a quandry because the meal I wanted had NO substitutions!  It came with turkey, dresing, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, peas, and your choice of pumpkin pie or pumpkin cheesecake.  I did NOT want mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, or the dessert.  I specially made myself a sugar free pumpkin pie and it was waiting for me at home....

So Tim & I did some swapping.  He got the bbq plate with cole slaw which I really wanted bad.  It just sounded like something I had a hankerin for...  so he took my mashed potatoes.  I gae him my pumpkin cheesecake, which we took home as he ws full....

I boxed up most of my food and had just a few bites of cornbread dressing, some turkey, peas.  The cranberries went to waste as I hate them, so does Tim....  and the turkey, dressing and remaining cole slaw are in the fridge.  I would bet $5 it goes to waste as it no longer has any appeal.  I'm already wanting to toss it.

My treat for the day  sf crustless pumpkin pie - tasted so good.  And I had no guilt, I didn't feel that wearysome thanksgiing day fullness of eating too much.  I consider it a success!

 How did ya'll do?
