What are your plans for Thanksgiving?

This year our daughter and her husband will be in PA for Thanksgiving with his family. Our son and his family go to Lewisburg to spend Thanksgiving day with her family. So...I will prepare our dinner on Friday.

This year I am making:

oyster dressing - more protein in the dressing
Turkey
baked sweet potato
sweet potato pone - Bill's granny's recipe, something he has to have every year
mashed potatoes & gravy
SF cranberry sauce
salad
green beans
corn
SF cheesecake
fireplace s'mores for the boys

A lot of the leftovers will go home with my son & daughter-in-law. I have really scaled back the number of dishes I fix for Thanksgiving. My kids told me that they don't need all of that food either so I just fix what everyone really wants now.

We are savoring every moment we can this holiday season. My husband is set to leave shortly after the holidays.  We are spending thanksgiving at my mom's house. I am making the turkey, ham, a SF pineapple cheese cake and a SF pumpkin pie.

Tim & I are going to Gatlinburg.  For my thanksgiving dessert, I am preparing a sugar free pumpkin pie here at the apartment, and taking it with us. That way, I can have a small pie to eat while I am there, as I wish.  I am freezing the remaining pumpkin concoction for another time to ensure portion control.  Plus, I do not use a crust.  I just put some of the pumpkin into a small loaf pan and bake it like that.

We will go to a restaurant that we visited last year... the food was good, but I cannot remember the name of it.  So it will be a nice warm, cozy and relaxing weekend!

Happy thanksgiving everyone!

We just moved here about 3 weeks ago, so this will be the first family Thanksgiving we've had in about 5 years -

I'm hosting and making a pretty simple menu:

Turkey (Brining it this year, can't wait to see how it turns out)
Stuffing (my mom is making this)
Green bean casserole
Mashed Potatoes
Mashed Sweet Potatoes (not a casserole, just mashed up with some milk and butter)
Corn
Rolls
Gravy
Cranberry Sauce
sugar-free Cherry Jello
Sugar Free Pecan pie

I'll have a bite or two of some of the side dishes and a slice of turkey most likely - and then a sliver of the pecan pie later on in the day

I didn't make everything WL friendly on purpose, since I'm the only one who's had the surgery and I don't plan on stuffing myself - like I said, maybe just a bite or two

I'm looking so forward to it :)

I hope you all have a blessed day!

Wow, it sounds like everyone has great plans for the holiday.  I made the almond flour cornbread today.  It's great!  Ron and I trialed a sugar free pecan pie recipe that was on bariatriceating.com last week.  The only thing I did different was use Walden's Farms sugar free maple syrup instead of Joseph's.  Ron and I took one bite each and pitched it out to George Coonie (who took all night to finally eat it).  It's pretty bad when the raccoon won't eat it!  She said in the recipe to only use Joseph's and I guess she really meant that!  I did also make their recipe for pumpkin cake roll-sugar free and low fat.  I actually made it more lowfat by using almond flour, eggbeaters, and fat free cream cheese.  I tasted it and its delish!  We are going mostly sugar free and low fat this year because all the adults are on diets and the little ones will have chicken nuggets and brownies anyway!

Watching the Macy's parade with my dh and some SF hot chocolate, while he has gingerbread coffee.  Then on to moms for lunch, then home to sleep in a turkey coma.
