First of all congrats on 61 lbs.  Now, you can't compare yourself to anyone else, you and your doctor have set what you think is right for you , didn't see whether you had band of bypass but an average of 20 lbs a month is pretty darn good.   You already know that drinking alcohol will make a difference in your weight loss because of the carbs so if you are okay with that then you have to be okay with the result.

THANKS DARLENE FOR UR INSIGHT. I KNOW THAT THE ALCHOL HAS TONS OF SUGAR AND I AM HONESTLY GONNA TO CUT DOWN I  USUALLY DRINK ON THE WEEKENDS. BUT THANK U FOR YOUR ANSWEAR.

Congrats on your weight loss.  But to be totally honest, a bypass patient should not be drinking alcohol in the first year after their surgery. Your body goes through enough changes as it is...  it sure does't need the added stressors of alcohol.  Plus, you want to get off the sugar.  It is not good for you long term as you must change your lifestyle habits now...  during the "grace period" as I like to call it.  Others call it "honeymoon".

As for 61 lbs, that is good.  HOWEVER, in the beginning, you will lose pretty much a lot because of the restriction alone.  But longterm, that alcohol is going to hurt you.  Also, there can be transfer addictions.  There are people who suddenly find themselves with alcohol addictions after wls.  Please be cautious.

Mel you took the words right out of my mouth, well we were thinking the same thought anyway. I didn't think we, as bypass patients, had any business with our fingers in the barrel so soon out.

I do hope the best for you in the long run on your weight loss. Like Mel said be very cautious and assess yourself on a regular basis to see if you are doing things that you didn't do before surgery. I am constantly looking in the mirror of life.

Best of luck to you!

That is exactly what I'm saying.  Why set yourself up for failure?  I had my insides rearranged for a reason......I cant imagine going back to the way I was before... I'm sorry I just dont see the reasoning in having surgery then doing the things you arent supposed to do.  I gave up a lot of things but right now I'm so glad that I did.  The way I feel right now is not worth a drink of alcohol, M&M's, snickers, even a pan of brownies.  I made this choice now I am reaping the rewards.
