hiccups

You know how everyone says if you get the hiccups that it is a sign that your pouch is full.  Well I get the hiccups after only a bite or two.  I'm trying to get my 3oz. of chicken, tuna, etc in but I am full after a few bites.  Should I stop and not get my protein in?  I am 6 weeks post-op.

Thanks,
Karen

For some it's hiccups, for others it's a small burp, and for others it's that uncomfortable feeling.

I aksed the same question when I was 6 weeks out.  The response I got made more sense than anything.  Your pouch is still new and the nerves are still healing, so there is no real way of knowing whether you're full or not.

My advice, stop before you hurt !  Just make sure you are getting your fluids.  If you need to supplement with protein shakes, go for it!

This is just my opinion:
you may either be taking too big of a bite
or eating too quickly as well as what Scott said.
Try taking smaller bites and wait about 1-2 minutes between bites before the next bite.
Sit your eating utensil down between bites. try this to see if that's it was well.

When you do your liquids add protein to them or make it a protein shake.

Let us know how this worked for you.

Great answer!  I did not even think about smaller bites!  And I really love the idea of placing your fork on the table between bites.  I heard that yesterday at Bariatric TV and totally forgot it!

Thanks for your thoughts on my hiccups.  I do take very small bites and I chew, chew, chew, sometimes I do eat to fast.  It usually takes me about 25-45 minutes to eat 3 oz. of protein.  I do get my fluids in, but I don't always get all of my protein in and I've started drinking an EAS shake that helps.

Your pouch is still very small as you just had surgery.  Your pouch very well could be full.  Or, it can also be a sign that you ate too fast.  Slow down, chew longer, take smaller bites and see if that helps you get more food before getting hiccups.  But, for me it always meant I was full.  I still get them sometimes.
