I am so happy to find a forum!!   I have been through all my steps, got insurance approval, and my surgery date is coming up in 25 days!  (December 9, 2008)

I am sure there will be a ton of questions, as I look to those of you who are ahead of me in the process, and I hope to be a help one day to the ones who are just starting out!

I am from TN, 40 years old, single mom to one son, Connor, who is 2!   I am work in a public school system with children with behavioral disorders, my job is NOT boring!

My surgery is at Vanderbilt, and my doctor is Dr. Richards.  (Anyone with any experience with either of them?)

Please feel free to ask me anything or any advice please let me know anything that might help!

Ok, so I am not the most computer savvy person there is, can someone tell me which of the links on the ticker factory I need to put one of the count downs as my signature??

Or I am guessing I put one of the links into the signature part?  If that is not right, how do you do it??  Thanks!!!

Welcome to the TN Forum, Amy. I had the verticle sleeve surgery done on Oct 13, which is different from the Realize Band, but we're all on the same journey together. Here are a few things that I've learned in the month I've been on OH. (I'm also on the sleeve forum.)

1. Do what your surgeon tells you. Every surgeon is different, has different post-op diet plans and vitamin regimens and when you'll be able to do things. Don't try to do what others are doing - follow what he says.

2. Get your head in the game. I started telling myself prior to surgery that sugar would kill me, bread would kill me, etc. etc. Naturally, that's not technically true, but now I'm not even tempted by those things because I know they will hurt me right now. (I hope that little voice never goes away!)

3. There's a guy on this forum - I think it's Bama Bob - who always says "Walk and sip." Very true! I walk 30 minutes every day and sip, sip, sip the water. At first, I couldn't get it all down, but you'll build up to the 64 oz. It wasn't until last week that I finally reached that goal.

That's just a few starters. If we can help, please post away!

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on your surgery date!

There is usually tradition that I do when someone says they are approved.  Since I missed that big announcement, let me do it now!  It's time for the "Happy Dance"

To add a ticker, just follow the link below:

How to add a ticker!

And finally, it's nice to have another Behaviorial Specialist on board.  Some of these guys (Bob L & BamaBob), need all the help they can get!  LOL!!!  I work for the Regional Intervention Program in Nashville!

If you ever need anything, just ask!

Scott

WELCOME ABOARD and CONGRATS on your upcoming surgery! Like Bob L. said, you have an A-1 surgeon in Dr. Richards -he is awesome, as is his entire team.  He really knows his stuff when it comes to WLS. And Vandy staff has been great too.  Just do what they tell you to do and you'll do great!

I did name my son Bob (Robert), does that count?  Since he is named after you and Bob L.

What if I changed my name to ScoBob?  That might help with my jealously!

Hey Amy and welcome to the TN board. We are just a bunch of "losers" on here........lol so just jump right in and ask away. We are here for the good the bad and yes sometime the ugly.....lol Good to see another "Bander" on here. I had mine a little over a year ago and hopefully my hubby will be having his in a couple of weeks. We both are going thru Dr. Morton at Baptist, but I have heard great things about Vandy and their doctors. I'm not real sure where Montery, TN is, bu****ch the board for our events, there are usually at least one or two a month where some of us get together. Hopefully you will be able to come and join us for some of them. We also want to do kinda like a road trip and visit other cities, watch for more details on that after the 1st of the year. I wish you the best on your WLS journey and keep us posted on your progress.

Cheryl
