Bored...and grazing!
marilyn
Marilyn, I am so sorry to hear that. I would say take up a hobby like quilting or knitting, but they require both hands for the most part. How about reading a good book? Unfortunetly for me, reading also means grazing. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I too, as i have told you before, am a grazer, but my choice of grazing material is worse than yours, crackers! EVERY DAY! Melinda usually has a good substitute for grazing, maybe she will stop by. I try her stuff, but ultimatley fall back into the old habits. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

STEP AWAY FROM THE FOOD. I REPEAT: STEP AWAY FROM THE FOOD!
The best idea that I have is to find a hobby, like Beth said (maybe knitting, puzzlebooks, reading, making a scrapbook, anything). Honestly, you have to fight this urge now because very soon after surgery, you will not feel like cooking anything. You will have to "fend for yourself" basically and the temptation will be that much greater to grab whatever is there....
If you have bad things in the house, I would say give them away, throw them away, just get them AWAY from your house so that you cannot be tempted. Make sure you plan for good snacks that you can have. That way if you do fall hard into the temptation, they will be better choices. And by better, I mean protein packed, low CALORIE foods. Not sugar free candy or sugar free snack cakes. Those suckers will decrease your daily calorie budget quicker than anything.
Those are about the only solutions that I have... because they are the same ones that I have put into force for myself as well. And, buy lower calorie foods when possible.
