post op pain question
So I had surgery last Monday and everything seems to have gone okay. Right now I'm just in a whole lot of pain, and I know that pain is inevitable since it was a major surgery, but how much is too much? I just thought I'd throw the question out here and see what pain experiences others had. I had the laparoscopic gastric bypass, so if you had this kind of surgery could you give me an idea as to how much pain you had, where the pain was the worst, and how long that pain lasted?
My pain is focused on two particular incision sites and the bruises associated with them. Mom decided that one of them might be infected and called the on call surgeon, so I started an antibiotic this afternoon that will hopefully start alleviating pain very quickly.
Thank you in advance for helpful responses!

There is going to be some pain you have to walk walk walk and sip sip sip it will go away, there will also be a snapping popping pain around the incesion site and then you will wonder where all the pain went, at least that is what happened to me. But walking does indeed make it feel way better.
Just remember to walk and sip

now I did end up with an infected incision that had to be drained. I was told the same thing you were about pain after surgery.. "You just had major surgery, DUHH!!", so i didnt know any better.
If any of your incisions shwo the slightest bit of drainage, dont play around, go immediately to the hospital.

I'm sorry you're experiencing a lot of pain. I never experienced that much pain. Mine was rather discomfort and severe bloating from the air they pumped into the pouch. Definitely if it continues, call Dr. McDowell. He'll be quick to get you into the office to take a look. He's very good about that. When are you to see Dr. McDowell again?
Most of the pain for me was on my left side, where the doctor put in the instruments. I think thats where they put the stapler in.. and it will be the most sore.... if you have a MAJOR amount of discomfort, I would call your doctor and talk to him about it. You can never be too careful in discussing these things with your surgeon just in case its something else going on...
