I still have about 20 more pounds to lose to be at my goal weight. I have found those stupid carbs again and am having problems getting back on track again. Can someone please give me some advice on getting off of them and getting back on track? I've found that vanilla wafers don't have protein! I'm 19 months out!

Thanks,

Janie

I am on low carb diet right now and can share some snack ideas with you that I like that have protein and low carbs.

1. Pork rinds  have 0 carbs  and have protein
2. Sunflower seeds  love these are my fav right now have 4 g of carb per serving and also have protein
3.vienna sausages have I think 4 carbs and also have protein
4. peanuts have I think 9 grams or less carbs depending on brand and salt and have protein
5. salad very low in carbs and good for you but not high in protein
6. string cheese or cheese in general has low carbs and protein as well
7. pickles are very low carbs but also little or no protein

As for advice.. I suggest YOU do all the shopping for the house, also go threw the cabinets and kitchen and get rid of all the carbs you have stashed away. Take your own lunch to work and dont take any money as to stay away from vending machines. It is VERY hard  to stay away from carbs totally but you can cut way back on them. Stay strong you can do this !!!!

Janie,

I can only speak for myself...  I am not sure what other long timers are doing...  but for me, I watch calories like a hawk.  I have replenished my supply of condiments, foods with lower calorie stock...  one example is sour cream.  I went from regular sour cream to fat free which is lower cal.  I have gone to lower calorie cheese, lower calorie deli meat, you name it and I am looking for it low cal.

I still watch the carbs, sugars, but in the end, I will compromise on the carbs IF it is worth the calorie reduction.  Now if its only 5 calories, and a difference of 5 carbs, I am not going to make the change... but if we're looking at 25 to 30 calories with maybe a 2 carb difference, you can bet I am switching....

I'm at the stage where the calorie intake has to be watched...  so its now a matter of looking at all 3:  carbs, sugars, calories.  I did not have to be that diligent in calorie watching beforehand... although I was cognizant, I was not vigilant and dogmatic about it...

Hope this helps.

You can also try the 5 day pouch diet. From what I hear about it, it does a good job getting the "old" pouch back and ridding of bad habits - primarily carbs. I want to try it but haven't yet. I have heard good things about it and some people have said it stopped them from eating carbs. Hope you find what works!

Here is a link:  5 Day Pouch Test

You can also try Susan Maria's 3 Day Liquid Protein Train

Basically, both are about getting off carbs if you are addicted to them.  It does help, whichever one you choose.  But you can actually just do your protein first rule...  cut out simple carbs, and get back to basics.

I have been working on this since Nov 1st...  it has helped me not feel so "obsessed" over food.  Its given me some freedom, and actually also helps me to enjoy my meals better.  During the mornings, I do liquid protein, then for lunch, I have protein only, then for supper I have protein plus moderate carb vegs.  At night, I have a protein latte'.  It has helped me tremendously.

Thanks Mel and Misty,
I'm going to try one of these wonderful suggestions! Just can't decide which would work better with my schedule. I work 7pm to 7am. I have a tendency to snack on nuts and cheese (and the vanilla wafers that we have at work.....I know bad choice)! High fat and the cookies don't help!  I work three nights a week, usually Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. I know that going back to basics would be my best option at this point. I need to prepare for my "coming out of my carb addiction"!

Thanks again girls!
