Cooking Oil
I look at the label of everything. Carbs, sugars, calories. Well, almost everything. I recently found out that canola AND extra virgin olive oil has 120 calories PER tablespoon! That means if I cook stirfry, and do not use Pam, I am wasting 240 calories. I could have drank 2 protein shakes for that!!
Has anyone else noticed this? I noticed when I saw a comment on Eggface's blog last week... a lady asked if there was something she could use in the place of oil. Eggface suggested using unsweetened applesauce instead in the 5 minute sf wls friendly microwave cake... so I tried it. As I used TheDailyPlate to look at calories, wow! I saved a whopping 227 calories by cutting out the oil!
Are there things that you have noticed lately in your diet that needed some tweaking...? While I will not cut it out completely, we do need some fats, I am definitely going to be much more cognizant... AND I am cooking at home more these days!
The thing is, if we are solely going on low carb diets, we can have oil and it won't matter. But, after a person reaches their goal weight, it is very important to go by calories. I watch carbs, sugars, and now very importantly, the calories... whereas before, I was not a REAL die hard stickler...
Now that I am able to eat more than when I first had surgery, those calories get away quicker than we realize. I am trying to see them like a checking account balance... when its done for the day... its done. And, like writing bad checks, it has its consequences... so I am being very cautious with the calories and trying to remove hidden calories whenever possible...
The oil issue floored me!
