Shoulder Surgery
When I got in from Memphis tonight there was a message on my machine. I will be having my rotator cuff repaired next Wednesday, the 22nd at 9 am. I really don't know a lot about this surgery as I was in shock when I found out I really had a tear and I didn't ask many questions, so I am going to call tomorrow to find out more info. So, here I go again, folks!
BTW, my brother was doing well when I left Memphis late this morning and was expecting to get to go home sometime today. Thanx for the prayers!

Marilyn, I had 4 total surgeries on my right shoulder - 3 arthroscopic and 1 open surgery. If you have arthroscopic surgery you will be released that day. You'll be in recovery for a couple of hours and they will make you drink clear liquids before releasing you. They will have the shoulder iced down to minimize swelling. They will have you move the arm passively (using the other arm) to avoid the formation of scar tissue, but you will not be able to move that arm on it's own. They started me on physical therapy a couple of days after the surgery. It was pretty tough, but bearable.
If they have do do an open operation, you'll be in the hospital a day or two. Recovery and physical time is longer too.
Best of luck to ya!!
Marilyn,
It's been 4 years now sense my shoulder repair. Mine was same day surgery and I was home that evening. I came home with a pain pump with meds to last two days in it. Loratab and oxycotin to stop breakthrough pain and flexerell. I remember waking up to pain the first night and I used the first oxycotin that night. After that only loratab. You will start pt asap. Always remember to take a pain pill before goimg to pt. It will make things feel better while there and have one ready for after if needed. You will be fitted with an arm sling that I refered to as my "buddy". You will learn to hate him. You will also learn to sleep sitting up. Most of this was due to my tear was so bad. My Dr. was not sure that he could do anything for me I later found out. My prayers are with you and your family.

Gald to hear that your brother is doing better. Now you can concentrate on Marilyn a little bit more. The best of luck on your shoulder, I know with Phil's he had a rough few days and then it was just dealing with him not being able to move it. I am still having to put mine off, due to Insurance and have pain just about everyday. I will be having mine sometime in late Feb'09. So I will be asking you some questions I'm sure on how you did things. Keep us posted when you can, I know that posting is not going to be a easy task during this. You have alot of our number's down here in Music City, so give us a call with your progress and we will be more than happy to post for you to keep everyone update.
