Can't Seem to Eat
I’ve been having trouble for the last two weeks getting in my protein and fluids. My PCP put me on Nexum for acid reflux and that has helped some but not enough. I have no appetite and have trouble swallowing my meds. All I think about all day is how to get in enough protein for the day. So far today I’ve had a cup of hot tea (10 oz.)a shake (6oz) with 30 grams of protein for breakfast. For lunch I got down 3 slices of deli turkey (10 grams of protein) and 2 slices of cheese (10 grams of protein). It took about 2 hours to finish that. I haven’t had any meds today as I think they will just come right back up. Shortly after drinking my morning tea I had dry heaves because there was nothing to throw up. I'm feeling really tired so not exercising, just doing what absolutely has to be done each day.
You know your body so if somethings not right you need to call the surgeon, Not your PCP. Don't mess around like I did until it becomes more serious.
Hope you get better soon!!

When I posted on the board I also sent an e-mail to Danita. I'm suppose to call her in the morning and see about coming in. I'm seeing my PCP for the problem I'm having with the pulled ligament and inflamation around my breast bone. Dr. McDowell has had me on Pecid since surgery but my PCP put me on Nexum for a short while because I seem to be having a lot of acid reflux right now.
I did manage to get in 92 grams of protein today. 42 grams of that was from a bullet, 30 from a protein shake and 20 from actual food . I may just have to get my protein from liquids for awhile. The shakes are all most as hard to get down as food, but mixing the bullet with Crystal lite I can tolerate that.
Thanks for caring.

Here is what I learned. If you start having trouble eating and/ or drinking and it lasts for several days then your body begins becoming malnourished and dehydrated which will only make it harder to eat and/or drink. For the first time since surgery, I've been able to eat without being nauseated at minimum or throwing up.
I wish you the best of luck! I know what it's like because I've been there. I concur with everyone else in that you should address this with your surgeon.
I sent you comments to Dr. McDowell's nurse and am waiting for her reply. I did get a few bites of chicken down last night, but still not nearly enough.
I post on this board because I trust the people here. You guys have gone before me and have already faced what I'm just coming up on. The people at the doctor's office are great but other then Paula none of them have had this surgery.
Thanks again.
