help weight gain
i was banded on 7/05 total weight loss was 40 lbs
1/08 i had a change in my insurance which no longer covered my adjustments.
I was unable to afford the cost and went unadjusted for 9 months.
today my weight is 5lbs less than my start weight.
i have gained 35 of the 40 lbs i lost back.
sad story but true.
I am thinking that the lap band was not the surgery for me. I needed something with less maintenance.
You never know when the is an insurance issue.
You still have the lapband? I would say go to a gastric surgeon and get an adjustment again and then start working your system, the one your doctor gave you when you first got the band. That should get you back on track and losing again.
And really, there isn't anything with less maintenance. Even RNY has maintenance for life. We too must work very hard not to regain the weight.
First off I want to applaud you for coming to the board and reaching out.
I would suggest going back to basics. Have you ever seen the movie, Billy Madison? If so you know what I am speaking of. If not, sorry for the lack of a good analogy.
In the movie, Billy has to go through school by retracing all of his 12 years of school.
Anytime I find myself struggling the best advice which has been given to me is to go back to stage one and work my way back through. This will not correct the lack of an adjustment, but until you can get in to see your surgeon it may help kickstart you back on track.
Are you able to attend a support group? If not, may I suggest you surround yourself with a good support system. The accountability is very important for my journey personally.
Know we are all cheering for your success. Keep us posted on how things are going.
No surgery is without maintenance. Please go see your doctor and jump start your weight loss. That's the beauty of the band we can restart.
