Liquid Diet
Anyone have a liquid diet that I can follow? I am desperately trying to lose these last 19lbs. so that my paperwork can be submitted to my insurance. I have been exercising some trying to get the weight off. I have BCBS of Tennessee. Anyone know what happens if I never lose the 10%? Do I jsut never get a chance to change my life through surgery?
I also had to lose 10% for my insurance to approve me. I did a low carb diet, but then I turned to Weigh****chers... and also, walked a lot. That helped me get it off but let me say, it WAS HARD! Losing weight prior to surgery is frustrating because you HAVE to do a certain amount just to get approved... I don't know of a liquid diet except something like optifast or medifast but you have to go through a doctor for those. You could try getting some protein powders and using them for meal replacements, snacks etc and then do a sensible one meal dinner or lunch a day... the protein speeds up weight loss as well. Staying clear of carbs will also get you started on an after wls diet as that is what most docs suggest. Hope this helps.
I lost 15 lbs on low carb. in two weeks.
Gained back 8lbs then..
My Nut also gave me a carnation liquid diet that was based on calories for my body weight and protien, I was 280 and the diet was 8 packs of carnation per day, plus 8 cups of liquids inbetween, I lost 10 on that for two weeks.
My weight loss wasnt required by my insurance. But was required by my DR.
Best wishes~

You can do the liquid diet but I wouldn't recommend doing it for more than 7-10 days because it could cause more harm than good. But I know most people can lose 10-15 pounds doing the liquid diet. You just have to make sure you drink 6-8 carnation instant breakfast a day in addition to all the sugar free drinks for the day. I know that Centennial (I think it is them) has their pateints eat one lean cusine a day and liquids the rest of the day with two protein shakes. You can try that.
My sister had to do the 10% as well. I know what helped her was a very low calorie, low carb diet. I had her eating egg beaters in the morning with a piece of whole wheat toast (about 100 calories total), and tuna or a salad or a smart ones meal for lunch as long as your lunch was less than (300 calories) and baked meat and vegetables for dinner (about 400 calores) so a total of 1000 calories a day (and if you get hungry eat an apple as a snack which helps). Which, as a pre-op, doing 1000 calories can cause drastic weight loss because it is starving and shocking the body. So, again, I wouldn't recommend doing it for any long period of time. She did it for about 2 weeks and lost quite a bit and then finished it up with a liquid diet for a few days to get her wegiht loss she needed. It is just a way of "cheating" to get the weight off. Because after you get it off and weigh in, as soon as you start eating again, the weight usually comes back on because you were starving it.
Just keep going at it. You only have 19 pounds to go and then you can have the surgery. Keep the end in sight and work as hard as you can. Don't give up. You just need to find something that works for you and do it. Even if it takes you a little while to do it, you can do it. Good luck!

Abount a month out from my surgery, my doctor (Dr Lynch) said that it would be ok to do the "Week 1" of the two week pre-op diet. This was for about 3 weeks, then started officially.
It consisted of 2 protein drinks a day and a low calorie dinner (or swap it with lunch and have the protein drink for dinner). The food or frozen entree needs to be below about 300-400 calories per serving.
I ate the Lean Cuisine dinners as they tasted the best.
For the protein I bought a huge box of the powdered Myoplex Lite (make sure to get Lite!). Has chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. (did not like the vanilla much, but drank them).
Also use broth, jello, coffee, tea, water and other liquids to fill you up (NO SODA, not even diet).
Hope that this helps.
