Hi,

My husband Keith's aunt had the wls surgery about 3 yrs ago. she has has gone from 300lbs to 130lbs and is about 5'11. She is doing really bad and has been since the begining. She throws up everything she eats. they have checked her for a stricture among other things and cant find any thing wrong with her. She lives in Tenn and has been to speacilist in Nashville and they recommended a physcologist. She is nearly on her death bed and rarley even gets out of bed.She is also having alot of migranes. Which i think is from not eating. She is very depressed.
Can any of you all help. May be this has happened to you or someone you know. Maybe you can shed some light on this. She has little kids and is only 39 yrs.

Thank you all for your help in advance!!!

Hugs, Holly and Keith

Hi Holly. I am very sorry to hear about your husbands aunt. I really don't have any good advice. I know one of the biggest misconceptions about this surgery is throwing up. People assume you thrown up a lot after having surgery. That just is not true unless there is a reason. As long as you are following the "rules" about how much to eat and what to eat, you should never throw up. I think she really needs to get in to see another (different) specialist for a 2nd opinion and more tests - perferably a weight loss surgeon. There may be a serious problem with her medically from the surgery that they need to find. Being 3 years out and throwing up is just not normal. At least I have never heard of it. She may have a twisted bowel/intestine which I know is hard to find in tests but I have heard can happen and would cause throwing up. Does she have any other problems like stomach pain?  Have they done a CT scan, ultrasound or a GI Scope with a colonoscopy? They need to do these tests. They probably need to check her blood levels and vitamin levels as well to see how she is doing with that.
I really hope she gets the help she needs and finds out what is going on with her.

I am so sorry to hear about this.  Has the doctor suggested tpn, a feeding tube or bag since she has lost so much weight and is unable to eat?  When I was in the hospital with my wls, there was a little lady across the hall.  My mother talked to her (I was still recuperating).  She weighed 101 lb, and was being fed through a tube.  The doctor said she was malnutritioned, and the feeding bags or even vitamins through tubes are very effective for those types of patients.  I would surely try to see a gastric surgeon or doctor who could do something of this nature so that she will not do irreversible damage to her body.

I hope she is able to find the cause of the problems through her doctors...  does not sound just like a mental issue though, but that something else must surely be going on.  Please keep us posted.  This worries me, and I cannot even begin to imagine how upsetting its been to your family.
