The Bladder

Well, today has been a long day.  At 4am my bladder decided to not work.  No matter what It would not do anything.  So off to the ER and get a cath put in and had to wear it home.  Couldn't hardly walk or sit it was so painful.   But the problem was I still wasn't putting out any volume.  A friend and I went out for some chinese food and I got so sick I just about passed out.  When we got home, I went back to the ER as I knew something wasn't right.  They took out the cath and put in another on, still not putting out any volume.  With me getting so sick and in so much pain, even my feet were cramping up really bad.  They checked my potassium and other blood work that the Dr. this morning wouldn't check.  Happy to say my potassium was just fine.  What they found out is my kidneys are loaded with stones, and I am severly dehydrated.  Hence why I got so sick at dinner.  I am just now getting home after having a large bag of fluids pumped into me.  I refused to wear that cath home again.  Even with all the fluids, the cath bag only had 100cc's in it and it should have been a lot more.  Now I have to see my urologist to see about getting some of the stones removed in order for my bladder to work properly.

I was always told to drink plenty of lemonade as it keeps stones from forming, but not if you're drinking Crystal Light.  It has to be real lemon juice.  I will be making up some tonight.  Happy to report, before I left I was able to go to the bathroom, still didn't put out much, but oh what a relief it was to pee.

I've never felt that sick from dehydration, but then my feet have been cramping really bad for about a month.  My sugar was fine, so I figured it was my potassium.  I know now what to do if it happens again, and most likely it will.

Prayers going out to all of you.

Love ya the

Kathy, I'm sorry to hear this.  Do you know what the cause of all the kidney stones?  I didn't know lemonade helped but will keep this in mind.  You will be in my prayers.

Hi Jane, I build calcium stones.  As I am on chemo pills for leukemia, it causes calcium stones to form.  My pancreas if full of them and so are my kidneys.  That's the draw back on the chemo pills I have to take.  As I told Mel, I keep the good drug handy, Dilauda, as the pain hits me so fast and I pass them before I can even get to the hospital.  I'll know for sure what they are going to do when I see my urologist on Wednesday.  Sure felt good to pee this morning and put out the volume that I couldn't put out yesterday.

To make my lemonade, I asked Backyard Burgers what their recipe was for homemade lemonade.  Here's the recipe they gave me, for a gallon, 3 cups of sugar (splenda) 1 and a half cups of lemon juice and water.  I usually only make 2 quarts at a time.  It's also my water supply.  Right now I'm drinking a very big glass of ice water.

Hi Mel, I had to have the first one in 1988 blasted, it was the size of a kidney bean cooked. I see the urologist next Wednesday.  They can only blast them if they are stuck and can't pass. My chemo pills causes multiple calcium stones.  My pancreas is full of them.  Up until last September I had only had 12 with #13 in the kidney and wasn't big enough to blast.  It's been there for 5 years.  Since last September I pass about 4-6 a month before I can even get to the hospital.  They hit me that fast.  I have passed a good size one recently.  I keep the good drug at all times, Dilauda.  I need to make some lemonade.  Cranberry juice gives me infections so that's out.

I won't know what they will do until I see my urologist next week.  So glad I was able to pee this morning.  Oh what a relief that was.  LOL
