Puree ewwwww
Hi everyone,
I just had my RNY last monday.
I made it through the first week. Lost 12 lbs.
I went to the one week check up and the moved me on to Puree.
I thought it was something to celebrate...but ewwwww!!!
I cant stand puree. Purely because of the taste and texture and visual effect.
.
I would much rather stay on the liquid.
Did anyone go through this???
Thanks!

I think anyone thats had weight loss sugery goes through it at some point. Ive been on puree since 20Aug and will be graduating to soft foods soon.
Anytime I think negatively about puree, i go back to my pre-op diet, where i had a protein shake for breakfast and lunch, and remember how hungry i was after having them with nothing i could do about it (lest I strayed from the diet, which i didnt).
For being able to tolerate eating puree, it helped me to imagine what the food would taste like if it wasnt pureed, and then I'd be reasonably satisfied when the flavor kicked in.
Are you possibly over-doing the puree to the point where its too "soupy"? made that error once on pureeing chicken and totally hated it. If its too soupy, add more content to the puree to even it out.

Thanks John,
I put beef pot roast in the blender and it came out smelling like cat food and a medium paste ..it was just to nasty for me to even think about eating.
Can anyone give me an idea of what puree foods work nicely??
Maybe im not doing it right??
Is puree a soup? or a paste?
I had blended beans with a boullion cube..soup consistancy on the liquid portion.
How should it be blended differently on the puree??
I resorted to armour can potted ham and vienna sausages...but that is way to fatty and salty for the diet.

Janice so glad to see you post again, hows hubby doing with his WLS? As far as puree it was the nastiest part of the whole journey thank god it's not that long!
But you don't want it to be like a paste or it will block the pouch and be coming northbound! I like you kinda stayed on a liquid it was just easier and I did like Tuna salad blended and Wendy's Chili.
If you like spicy there is a brand of tuna called Bumble Bee Spicy Thai Chili found with the Starkist the can looks like cat food.
But its extremely moist you don't drain it and in your case blend it as is. The first bite you might not like it to much but give it three bites the flavor kicks in and pretty tasty I still eat it a couple times a week. Good luck and again good to hear from you. C'ya Bob

I think a lot of people go through that. My problem was I didn't want to eat much less eat puree food. But I think you need to experiement. Mostly you should stick with food that is already close to puree. If you try to puree regular food, then it will not look good and will have a funky texture. Puree doesn't have to be soupy. Try to do things like chili (wendys is good) and soups. I blended up different soups and froze in ice trays so you could just take out one or two "cubes" at a time that you knew you would eat. Each cube is about 1 oz so it helps you measure that way too. I lived on the blended chicken salad. Blend up the chicken (the chicken in the can is easist since it is already moist) and add some seasonings and some mustard and light mayo to it. Also, beans will be your friend. I loved heating up some refried beans and adding a little cheese to it. You can even get the red sauce to add into it (similar to Taco Bells Pintos and cheese which you can eat also). Try to get some recipes and experiment.
It is just another hurdle you will get through. Good luck!

I'm just about the graduate as well. I CAN"T WAIT!!
I lived on soft scrambled eggs, canned chicken (chicken salad, etc), chili, string cheese Laughing Cow light cheeses, Babybel, etc.
I also bought some of that "Chi-Chi's" chicken taco stuff blend that and add a little cheese and light sour cream, and it is really good. I also tried that Bob Evans pot roast blended, but that went into the trash REALLY fast!! The tast was good, but just could not get beyond the texture.
I did not think that I would get through it, but you will. Keep going!!
Good Luck!
Michael.

Hey Janice, great to see you posting again. Congrats on the weight loss so far, that is great. I never had to do the puree stage, and I am glad that I didn't. I would have wanted to stay on the liquids myself, nothing pureed sounds good at all to me. This is just another stage in your journey, just try to think about getting to the next one, maybe that will help.
