My one piece of advice would be to read everything you can about the type of surgery you  are interested in.  Educate yourself.  Become an authority on the subject.  Research the good and the bad so that you will know what to expect.

Knowledge is power!

Make sure you are mentally prepared for the changes that are ahead of you. The changes are many. More than just your health changes. Your eating will change, your looks will change and your thinking will change. Just make very sure you are prepared for these changes as it is a long bumpy journey but it is well worth it.

Make sure you're ready to make the total committment for success. Study, research, ask questions and learn all you can about the pros and cons of WLS.  Realize that WLS is a tool, not a magic cure. It takes dedication and committment to be successful. Committment to eating correctly, getting in the fluids to stay hydrated, dedication to walking and exercising consistently, etc.  It requires a truly life-long committment to a new, healthier lifestyle.  Once done, you can't simply sit back and expect the surgery to work miracles - it takes work!

And I would do it again tomorrow!
