Taking pills - OUCH!!

Hi all,

I need a little help...

I've been taking my vitamins and supliments religiously.

Today I went to take my calcium pill (CVS 600MG pill) and After I took it, I really hurt.  It was like it wanted to come back up, but I knew that it was not stuck.  I took it with just enough water to get it down, but still it hurt!!

I ate my breakfast about 2 hours prior, so I didn't think that it was because my pouch was full.

I've always had a tiny amount of pain when I take my pills (I take it and then usually make a funny face and then it goes away), but nothing like this.  I had to goto the bathroom because I thought that it was going to come back up.  All that mucus in my mouth, etc.

Does anyone take any of the 600MG calcuim that is smaller than this beast??

Thanks for any help provided!!

Michael.

Michael to this date I still take liquid or chewables or crush them. For me I'm trying not to get the stuck feeling and get the most absorption possible. If you got the foamies from it, it blocked your pouch. This to will pass.... C'ya Bob

Is that what happened, I got the "foamies"??

To me the pain felt like I really needed to belch.

I do use the Bariatric Advantage vitamins.  I may have to switch to the chewable for the calcium as well.  I do know that the calcium is only available in 400's not 600's.

Thanks for the info!!

Hi Michael!

I remember last year when I saw the size of the calcium pills....I was truly afraid!  I switched to Bariatric Advantage chewables.  I buy them at bariatriceating.com.  The cinnamon flavor and the cherry are my favorites.

Good luck!  See you at the support group meeting?

You can always break that sucker in half and swallow the 2 pieces separately.

Personally, I still prefer a chewable calcium. I hate it when a pill gets stuck even if it's just for a few minutes.

Reading about the 600 mg pill made my chest hurt!  Wow you are a brave soul.  The Bariatric Advantage has a new formula out.  Its not as gritty as it used to be and chews up nicely.  They have several flavors to choose from.  They used to suggest 2 a day, but now they suggest 3 a day, and have made a larger container bottle to hold what you need and included the additional 1 pill a day for the amount you purchase at no extra upcharge for the tablets.

Like Bob suggested, it might be best to crush or even like Susan said, to break up that calcium pill.  Ouch, that just sounds painful! Those things are huge.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!

I took the 2nd pill yesterday and did not have any problems.  When I get paid again, I will take everyone's advice and buy the 3 month supply bottle of the calcuim from Bariatric Advantage.

I currently use the chewable vitamins and have no problems at all, so I hope that the same can be said about the calcium.

Thanks again all!!

I was reading this and wondering if pills are problems for most people and how you are suppose to take them because I have fibromyalgia and am on several pills will this be a problem after surgery? I had wondered this before but thought it may be a stupid question but guess not LOL
