I'm about to leave work for my last appointment in the 3 month preop program that Aetna requires.  I'm so excited, but at the same time I have some nervousness.  I hope I did enough to get insurance approval.  I've been working very hard at changing myself, my attitude towards food, etc.  If you don't mind, keep your fingers crossed that everything goes well today  :o)  Hopefully within a few weeks I'll have a surgery date!!

My 3rd appointment went okay.  I was really excited when I first got there and found out that I lost 11lbs.  I know it doesn't seem like much, but for me that's the most I've been able to lose on my own in a long time.  I had probably lost more but gained some back after vacation at home with my family last week...lol.

My problem is this: when I first went to the seminar, the insurance specialist told me that since I didn't have insurance in the past 7 years to provide a 5 year weight history that I could submit a picture history. She said that they've done it before and it was successful.  That helped me feel positive and I really thought I had a chance, so I worked hard on getting together a picture history.  Today I was told that they can't submit pictures.  a) they don't have the ability to and b) the insurance companies don't allow them.  I felt like I had gotten slapped in the face!  She told me that they can and will type up a letter explaining that I didn't have insurance, but she couldn't tell me how that would affect my chances of approval.  I'm going to try very hard to stay positive, because I know that I need this surgery and that God always provides.  This just puts a little wall in the road to get around.

Way to go on 11 pounds !!!!!

Now, to the insurance part, sorry!  It's just another one of those stumbling blocks that we have all tripped over and did a face plant!!!!  My wife was unable to weigh on our PCP's scales, so the insurance company allowed her to document her 5 year weight through pictures.

Step back, breathe, and think things through.  Ask again about the picture history.  In fact, how about scanning the pictures yourself and printing them out.  This way, they would have a way to either fax or mail them.  Just a thought!

If you need help with your pictures, I will be glad to try!
