going through steps to get gastric bypass
Hello, I am hoping to get the gastric bypass surgery. I am 22 years old 5 5" and weigh 346.5lbs.
I have been on diets such as jenny craig, LA wieght Loss, and of course the basic calorie counting self made diets. I have been overweight for all of my life, being born on the heavy side.
I love to swim and walk yet I only tend to loose no more than 10 lbs. on the diets which take me so long to loose. Can someone tell me what they have tried and what led up to them knowing they would need gastric bypass for true weight loss?

Hello and WELCOME!!!
I just had my surgery just under 4 week ago.
First thing I did was talked to my regular doctor about the possibility of surgery, and then a recomendation. Then contact the Surgens office and get information. Most of the time that will setup a consoltation. I went to the Medabolic Center at Baptist and there, you just walk in any time between 8am-330pm M-F for a consoltation.
At that time they will discuss insurance and tell you what will be required from you and possibly your regular Doctor.
You will also be setup for a some sort of Support Group or Informational Session to give you more information about the various types of surgeries available. Then you will talk with the surgen and discuss what would be best for you. Most of the time the Doctor will recommend one for you, but ultimatly it is your choice. For example I went in looking for a Lap-Band, but Dr Lynch and I decided that Gastric Bypass would be better, because of the negative reenforcement with Dumping Syndrome (I was a big soda and sweets eater).
If you are in the Nashville area I would highly recommend Dr Lynch, but other here will tell you their choice.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Michael.

Hey Evelyn! Good questions.
I have yo-yo dieted so many times that my yo-yo has gone ya-ya! I guess the thing that caused me to make the decision to have gastric bypass was a 1/4 mile hike over a year ago. I almost passed out from a simple little hike with my son. That was the turning point in my life. Also watching my wife go through the surgery and losing her weight was truly a positive in my decision.
Since surgery, my wife has lost over 180 pounds, my sister has lost over 170 pounds, I have lost 170 pounds, and my brother in law had surgery over a week ago. So, weight loss surgery has given my family back it's health!

I have been morbidly over weight for the last 5-6years. My general practioner(regular doctor) suggested gastric by- pass for me 4 years ago. In that 4 years my BP has gone through the roof and now I have to take 3 BP pills everyday, in addition to all the medicine I take for my osteoarthritis. I feel like I'm just waiting for a stroke or diabetes! Even though I love the idea of "being thinner", the real reason is my health--I'm especially scared of having a stroke. So here I am--in the middle of my 6 month doctor supervised diet and getting everything checked off to send to insurance!
Hi hon, we have all got our own stories, I am in my forties, 5'4' 326 LBS. and should I say I enjoyed food, but I tried to watch, what I ate, but I would go on sprees of how much, I am a diabetic, high b/p artharities, and other comobidities. Just alot of things, but one thing is, I really enjoyed the taste of food, I still do, but my lil pouche lets me know that it is filled to the rim. And finally I know what it is to be full. That is one thing I don't remember feel'n before. I've gone from a size 30 to a 16-14. makes a difference. Barb
