Help..scared..worried..need support
I need for everyone to tell me that I am doing the right thing and everything will be fine and for me not to worry.
As most of you know I have only worked at one job my whole life. I started right out of high school as part time and gave Third National/SunTrust Bank 31 years. I was on the back side of the operation, so therefore I did not have to deal with the public. So with me being so heavy, I was in my "comfort zone" since I didn't have to handle them.
Well I had to take disability in 2006 due to everything going on with me as far as complications along with my obesity. So I have been out of the job loop for almost 3 years now.
I will be starting a new job next week. I will be working at the same place the Phil does. It is crowd control/security for the Sommet Center and LP Field. It is only PT and not a whole lot of money but this time of year with the hockey and football there is usally alot of work, and we sure can use what ever money we can get now days, as I am sure most of you are like that. I filled out my application last week they called me two days later and told me they wanted me to come in for orintation (sp) last night. I have to go get fingerprinted and apply for a unarmed security class and license.
I will be able to work the same events/games as Phil but we won't be in the same area. So that will help as far as gas going downtown.
This is just WAY out of my comfort zone and I am scared to death about the whole thing. I know that some of you have seen me come out of my "shell" some over the past year or so, but I still have my doubts about myself and dealing with some of the people, especially the ones that may have had a little too much to drink.
They do have some elevator spots where I would be in a elevator all night and making sure that the people get off at the right floor and stuff like that. You have to have special tickets to get off at certain floors. Of course I will have to learn all of that. I am concerned about the walking/standing since my legs still swell sometimes. So if that becomes a problem, then I can use Phil's scooter, but that would mean that he would have to use his manual wheelchair and that is going to make it harder on him to work. Maybe I am worrying for nothing, but as most of you know I am a True Blue Worry Wort about everything.
So I just wanted to share this with my OH family and ask for support/encouragment during this trying time for me.
Thanks,
Cheryl

Cheryl:
Take an honest look at how far you have come in the last year. You have done things you never thought you could do (and did them well!) Now take a deep breath and remember who you are! You are beautiful, bright, honest and hard working. You will be an attribute to your new job. Forget about the negatives...concentrate on how much fun you're gonna have!
Love you!
Freddie

God bless you for sharing your story!
I know how you feel about dealing with the worry of working, I have been worried about trying to find a part time job because there would be no way I could work a full time job, and with my disability I couldnt' work full time anyway.
Just try it, the worst you could do is find that you cannot do the job. Nothing ventured nothing gained is my new motto. I am stepping out all the time now, and I am finding that when I try things don't seem all that bad.
Bear in mind that you cannot overwhelm yourself, so be patient and do the best you can do!!
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!!!

Cheryl,
Take a deep breath! You can do this. You are a wonderful organizer so you will figure out how this can be done. Remember this scripture? "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34. and this one? "Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life ?" Matthew 6:27. Can you tell I have had to use these A LOT? Sometimes for me, when I am in a strange or uncomfortable situation, being able to say a little mantra to myself calms me down. Maybe you can use one of those scriptures, or maybe you can come up with something else yourself. You can do this and might even find out it is kind of fun!

Cheryl,
Stepping outside your comfort zone can be rewarding. It helps build your confidence, improves your outlook on life, provides new experiences that create learning and personal growth, and makes for some exciting storytelling. ,,,,,,,,,,
Just think of all fun stories you are going to have to tell us. I think this is great. Don't be afraid. I have watched you face many challenges over the past year and you have been an overcomer... You can do this.......Trina

Cheryl, surprise yourself and you'll find you can do anything you put your mind too. I agree with Freddie and all the others. You have overcome so much and came so far, this should be easy for you. Here's a favorite that I use daily: Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things "through Christ which strengtheneth me. Works every time.
You're in my thoughts and prayers and I know you will enjoy this new job. Have fun with it.
