Hubby surgery tomorrow
Tomorrow is finally here. Hubby will be going into surgery and what a week it has been!
He had to go into Vandy 4 times last week. Last minute they found kidney problems.
They were worried his kidneys were to damaged from his diabetes to take the surgery.
His creatin was up to 3.3 ...
Thank Godness we are at Vanderbilt...we were able to get into see one of the worlds leading transplant drs. , we learned so much from him.
One of the things he was able to explain was that the high cholesterol my hubby had been treated for was realy an artifact of the bad kidney function...so that is why we could never get it down enough. And also his body is not making thrombin correctly so there is more fibrin in his system which causes more blood clots.
I just thank God that he has been able to make it this far and not have anything super major go wrong.
They did several tests and approved him for the date tomorrow. But I am still worried.
Has anyone else had "bad" kidneys and gone through the surgery?

Hi Janice I had bad kidney problems as well and liver and so on from diabetes. The kidney problem was actually what pushed me into having WLS. They shut down in NJ back in Sept. and I really thought I was wasn't going to make it. Of course I did but with the possibility of dialysis in the near future. After WLS my numbers all feel into line and no med's. My endocrinologist is there at Vandy so thats why I had WLS there so he could monitor my diabetes. Good luck, I feel he will be a new man very shortly please keep us updated, I wish I was in town I would stop in. C'ya Bob
Janice,
Prayers are being lifted this morning for your husband, you, and the staf at Vandy! I truly believe you are in great hands! I'm glad he found these things out early!
Now, if he ever needs any post-op mens advice, tell him he has Bob L., BamaBob, and myself, (and a few others who are hiding in the background) for that male point of view!
Hang in there and take it one day at a time!

We were able to make it home late today :)
I am so glad to be able to tell everyone that Jason made it through the operation and my driving from Nashville !!!
They kept him for an extra day because his pulse was fast...and they thought he might have had something a little wrong with the stiching. THNK God he didnt...we got to see the New pouch and reroute work on an x-ray. Everything was stiched up well and No Leaks! He got to drink Dye for his first post op drink...felt bad for that part..for him.
The nurses were great ...on the 9th floor :)
We put up a schedule for the water trial and he was able to advance all the way to 240cc by the end of the second day...no nausea and not vomitting.
His waking blood sugers have went from 330 to 165 ! !!!
Down for 50 units to 3-8 units for shots.
The endocrine Dr said she wouldnt be surprised if he was off it all together by the end of next week!!!
Right on about the kidneys too!! His creatine went from 3.3 to 2.7
So we know something is going on, we have to do more follow up with it.
I ran out to GNC tonight just before they closed and was able to get some of the bullets for his protein. He loved it ...they tasted like jello kool aid :)
And ran by Kroger and picked up a kroger brand vanilla carb yogurt (had lots of protein added in it all ready! Its Yumm)
I mixed 1oz of that with 1teaspoon Oasis calcium and He loved it...
Said it tasted like the parfae at McD's.
