Questions about Vena Cava Filter

Has anyone needed a Vena Cava filter before surgery. I have had blood clots before due to appendectomy and my surgeon decided tha I needed one before surgery.

If someone has had one please tell me if placement hurts or will I need pain meds after insertion and if you can feel it. I'm kind of nervous about that. Thanks.

I was put to sleep when they inserted mine but I don't remember having any pain after it.  To this day i still have mine and I can't fill it actually I forget it was there until I went to do my plastics last month. Don't be afraid everything is going to be ok...

I had one placed the week before my surgery.  They also put me to sleep.  It only took about 15 minutes and was no big deal.  They gave me a script for hydrocodone to take afterwards, but I only took a couple of them and then only because I had a 4 hour ride home.  It was easy and really did give me piece of mind!
