To experienced grief counselors or grieving parents...
I was so blessed this weekend to have a chance meeting with a lady that lost her grown son a couple of months ago... This was her only child.... She is hurting so bad... I asked her if she was attending any grief counseling meetings and she told me no....
I want to take her and attend some support meetings with her.. She said she would be happy to go to some meetings with me... Her son died in October.... Can someone please help on this issue. I am out of my realm here... I can talk Nutrition, WLS, Depression, all kinds of stuff but the death of a child is way out of my element...... But I promised her I would help her..... And I am going to help her if it hair lips the Governor... I need something in the Nashville area.... Thanks guys......

Trina,
I think it is wonderful that you are willing to go with your friend. When Matt died, I had great support...for a while. Then it kind of fell away. Usually at about 6 months after the loss, the numbness wears off and the real pain begins. I have a list of books that might also be of use. I will get them together and PM you. Also check to see if there is a Compassionate Friends group in Nashville. It is a specific support group for people who have lost a child, adult or not. I have been where your friend is, and I am thanking God you are there for her.
Speaking of loss, my husband's work partner lost his son in a freak truck accident on Saturday outside of Tucson, AZ. They are from Morristown, TN. It of course has been horrific for this family and brought back a lot of feelings for my husband. Coincidentally, their son's name was Matthew as well. So, folks, I would ask for prayers for this family this week as NTSB investigates and then for the memorial service on Friday and for some sort of comfort for this grieving family.

Hi Marilyn,
Thanks for the information and encouragement. You know I really hesitated to say anything about this at first because I new about your son and I did not want to stir up any bad feelings.. But I have heard that it is good to talk about it... Is that right?
I just felt so bad because she said she had no one to talk to so I just thought if I could find her a group and go with her once or twice then she would be more comfortable and make some new friends. Friends that have things in common with her.....

My daughter goes to a grief counselor. We found her through our mental health insurance provider. We use Peggy Beasley in Murfreesboro. I feel sure that if she has mental health insurance they can help her find someone in her area.
Good luck. This is a difficult process to go through.

They lost their son when he was a small child years ago, but this group is for parents who have lost chidreln of all ages whether they were young at the time of their death or grown adults.
