Surgery Tomorrow!! (Monday 08-18-08)
I know that my surgen and the hospital staff at Baptist will be great, but I'm still scared!
I've watch videos on Youtube, I've read, read and read some more to get as much info as I can.
I've prepared once I come home with food like little ice cubes of frozen pinto bean puree, fat free gravy, etc.
I have jello and pudding. Bought protein, sugar free syrups, Bariatric Vitamins, and Tylenol.
I think that I'm ready. I've even packed my bag for the hospital! iPhone charger, portable sat radio and headphones, two pairs of sweats, t-shirts, chapstick, toothbrush and more.
This last week I've thought about cancelling several times... One time almost when I saw a video on Youtube of a guy getting a catheter, and he was in pain, just moaning and the nurse trying to ease it. Sounded very painfull! I was reassured that this will be done when I'm asleep, so it will not hurt.
I'm scared that something will go wrong. I'm scared that I will have complications.
But I think that I'm ready.
PS - My Doctor (Dr Lynch) at Baptist is at the Metibolic Surgery Center, and one Nurse in particular Paula Duncan has helped me out greatly. Thanks Paula!! See you at the support group!
Michael.
Michael,
I was terrified before surgery and also almost cancelled it several times. I even thought about putting my clothes back on in preop and just leaving! But, I really needed the surgery and I had already paid for it! I just remembered how miserable my weight was making me and how sick. Then, the sneaky little anesthesiologist gave me a sedative in my IV before I knew it and I didn't care anymore! Soon I woke up and all was over! You will do fine and you are in my prayers. Please post asap after surgery to let us know how you have done. It is not unusual to think "What the h$%l have I done" for the first couple of weeks, so just follow the doctor's orders and soon it will all be better and you will think this is the most brilliant thing you have ever done! Again, you are in my prayers for tomorrow!
