New to boards and have questions on recovery.
I have started "the process" at Vanderbilt, and had my surgeon all picked out and now he has left the practice. I am doing the lap-band, I am 5 months into my 6 month moderated weight program, I have completed everything to the letter and after my September weigh in, I'll have everything done, EXCEPT meeting a new surgeon. YIKES.. but I'm not goig to take it as a set-back, I'll just research the other doctor's at Vandy and pick someone else.. :)
So, I am very excited, and very excited to find these boards.
My question right now concerns recovery, I choose the lap band because of it being the least invasive, but for those of you who have gone that route, (and I know we are all different) but I'm just curious as to
1) how soon you felt like getting up and moving around,
2) resuming work schedule, and
3) with my little one, were there weight limits and for how long?
Thank you for your time and I do look forward to being a part of this board!!
TGIF!
Amy
Since you are having Lap-Band your recovery will be much easier. It really depends on the person, but you should be able to be up and around in a day or two.
If you do office, work, you can go back to work in less than a week, and you probably won't have any lifting restrictions. If it hurts, don't do it.
You will mostly just be very sore but it would be rare that you would cause any damage by just picking up or playing with your son. You will hurt and be sore so don't over do it, but besides that, you should be just fine.
Hello Amy and welcome to the board. I hope that you will post often and when you are down this way join in some of our wonderful events that we have.
I had LapBand almost a year ago at Baptist. I went in the morning of surgery and was on my way back home by 1:00 or so. Once they get you in a room and you are able to keep a little liquid down and I do mean a little, they will get you up walking. Once they see that you can do both of those, you are out'a there. You will be sore for a few days and as long as is doesn't hurt to do things, you are not really limited. But your body will let you know if you over do it. Walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip.
Keep in mind this is the way I done, like you said everyone in different. So as long as you do as your doctor says you will be fine. What my doc said may or may not work for you.
I hope this helps a little bit. Keep us posted on your journey and when you get your date.

I had RNY, but just wanted to say...Welcome! follow your Doc's advice and you will be fine. Like Brian said, if it hurts, don;t do it! I like that ! Even though I had gastric bypass, I was able to go back to work in 2 weeks at a non-lifting job, and picked up a 2nd job at Home Depot at 5 weeks!
Anyway, if you have any other questions, feel free to jump right in, and if you know the answer to a question, well, just jump right in!
As Minnie Pearl would say...HOWDY!
