Neurosurgeon postop visit #1

Saw the neuro guy yesterday.  What a day!  First I had to go up to Knoxville to get an xray of my neck then go to the doctor's office.  He showed me the xray, and boy does my new jewelry look pretty!  All nicely screwed in place and the bone graft looks alive.  But, he said my neck was in bad alignment because I am obviously having a lot of muscle spasms.  I admitted that I was and that I was taking the muscle relaxers when they got so bad I couldn't stand it anymore.  He fussed.  He said I am behind where I need to be in healing because I HAVE to take the muscle relaxers to allow my neck to rest in order to heal.  I was trying to be a good patient and not take too many drugs! So, I have 2 different ones that I am supposed to take every 6 hours round the clock for the next 2 weeks.  I will be drunk off my butt!  But, in order to get this thing better, I will do whatever they say.  They also said no exercise bike for another month, no lifting over 20 pounds, no reaching, pushing or pulling anything!  Dh is not happy that he has to continue KP but he isn't complaining!  Also looks like I am off wor****il the first of October.  I am so afraid that I am going to lose my job!  My FMLA ends August 23.  Thankfully, being a nurse, I should be able to find another one without too much trouble, but losing the benefits would be a real bi%$&!
FYI, all you BAMBI lovers, my car is fixed , it was almost $5000!  State Farm can't find any of Bambi's family members to sue, so I had to pay the deductable!  The repair shop said they found deer fur all the way back to my back bumper!  Thank God Ron was driving!

Poor Bambi, but I'm glad everything is working out about your car.

Rest, take your drugs and feel better soon.

I have some chronic pain conditions and it is VERY hard for some (me included) to take the medications. Some of us (me included) have had such strong opinions about the importance of not becoming dpendent on medication that it is hard to reverse that and take it when we need it.

On the plus side, if they make you sleepy the time will likely pass by sooner than you think!

So even though you got new bling, you are not wearing it right.......lol I know what you mean about taking the silly meds. I have some for my shoulder that I am "suppose" to take twice a day. I only take them at night to help me get comfortable and sleep. I don't take them during the day, I just try not to use it too much, but I aint't having much luck with that. I go back next week so I'm sure that I will get a fussin at too. Just do what they say, they know best. Tell Ron to keep his chin up and just keep on keeping on. Hate to hear about your FMLA running out, that is not going to make things any easier for sure, but I'm sure there will be other places that will want a skinny little nurse......lol

Glad to hear about the car being repaired, not so much about the cost. I can't belive that a farmer can't find a deer.............lol. It's a shame that they couldn't have made you a coat or at least a wrap out of the fur, you have lost so much it wouldn't take much..lol

You take care and do as they say. Keep us posted as you feel up to it.

Cheryl

Hang in there and do as instructed so you can heal up and get back to exercising. Take care of yourself and let the hubby handle everything else. (But you're gonna owe him bigtime!! Hehehehe!!!)

Glad to hear you are on your way to recovering!  Just be a good patient/not a nurse and do what the Doc orders.

As far as Ron is concerned, tell him you will make him a Sugar Free Red Velvet Cheesecake when all is said and done.  And if it comes down to it, I'm sure I can find a recipe for Venison stew somewhere!

Take care Marilyn, and we will see you soon!

I know how you feel about taking pain meds but I once had a doctor tell me that if you only take the medication as needed when you are in pain it shouldn't be a problem.  So I agree with Scott, be a good patient and take your meds!
