Dr. Houston and Centennial Hospital

Has anyone used Dr. Houston?  I attended a seminar of his and from what I heard it is a great place to go to.  They said that one whole floor of the Women's Center is the Bariatric unit including the nutritionist, psychologist, exercise physiologist, plus the doctor office and labs for blood work etc.  Kinda like one stop shopping, haha.  Anyway he seems like he really knows his stuff.  Just curious about experiences that anyone has had.

I see Dr Dyer who is in the same office with Dr Houston...  They are awesome...  I have recommended them to everyone.  The Women's Hospital at Centennial HOspital was the best place, I think, I could have went.....  The nurses there made me feel like I was more than a "JOB" to them but that they really cared about my well being.

Let me know if you decide to go with them and what your experience is like...  I'm sure it will be wonderful..

Good luck....

The fact is, that to do anything in the world worth doing, we must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger, but jump in and scramble through as well as we can.

My mother & I both had our surgery done by Dr.Houston. He is a good doctor, the best I think out of the practice. His bed side manner is not one to brag about, but a great surgeon!! I would say yes to having him handle your needs.

Your post made me laugh.  I remember when you were not real happy with his bedside manner! LOL.  But one thing for sure, he is there when you need him.  I love Dr. Hottie, oops, I mean Dr. Houston. LOL

He has seen me through a whole lot.

LOL, yeah just make sure you don't eat any canteloupe. He got me on that one once. I just didn't tell him anymore! LOL

I am doing pretty good; enjoying the summer weather and life itself...  although I used to get really cold all the time, now I get really hot out in this weather.  I kinda wish I would still stay cold!

I went to a seminar by Dr. Olsen - he was my first choice and was very impressed. Unfortunately Dr. Olsen nor Dr. Houston take Medicare and Dr. Dyer is not accepting new Medicare patients.

So I went to Vandy - also very impressed. I have an appointment with Dr. Richards for a consult on Sept. 11.

I had originally chosen Dr. Olsen because he is so skilled at lap procedures and has a great reputation amoung other doctors in Nashville.

I think I would prefer Centennial because of the Bariatic unit but will probably go with Vandy just because of $$.

Scott, the first week Dr. Houston was concerned that I could not get anything down, so he cleared me to eat cottage cheese as that was the only thing I loved on the list but it wasn't time to add that to my plan yet.  Well come to find out, I HATED cottage cheese after surgery.  So, I started to add a little bit of canteloupe. Ohh when he found out, he got onto me.  He was concerned that I would fill up on canteloupe, and make it a meal replacement.  But I just needed a few tiny pieces to change the taste of my cottage cheese to get it down.  So now I always laugh at canteloupe and Dr. H.!!

Hi Dispatcher

Welcome to the board.  Dr. Houston is not my surgeon but I have several friends that he is their surgeon and they are doing fantastic...  He comes highly recommended as does the Centennial WLS practice.  I have only heard good things about them....

My surgeon is Dr. Richard's at Vanderbilt.  The Vanderbilt WLS center is also a Center of Excellence and I cannot say enough wonderful things about them....  I have a very expensive private Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance Policy that let me choose any WLS center in the Nashville area that was a Center of Excellence and after attending many seminars in the area and doing countless hours of research I ultimately chose Dr. Richard's at Vanderbilt...  Being 20 months post op if I had it to do over again I would have done everything exactly the same....

I think Dr. Houston is a fine choice and feel confident that you will find many here that agree.....   Just do what feels right for you....  You will know....
