Surgery in memphis!

Anyone out there had their RNY at the St. Francis Hosp. Weight loss Center in Memphis? Tell me about your experience.

I used to work as a RN in Memphis.  Before I would have surgery at St. Francis, I would really investigate their quality.  There are a couple of sites on the Internet that can help with that.
www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov/ is a government site that you can look up specific areas of their surgical care improvement project (Mandated by Medicare and JCAHO) and www.healthgrades.com/ is another site that uses their quality measures to compare them to other hospitals.  Unfortunately, in Tennessee, bariatric surgery is not specifically measured yet, but if you look at gastrointestinal surgery, you can get a good idea. Healthgrades has both a free report and a more specific one that you pay for.  I wouldn't pay for one myself.  Hope this helps.  The best thing that you can do for yourself is research, research, research BEFORE you commit to a surgeon!

I work at St. Francis Hospital (in the ER - non clinical) and have heard and seen nothing but good things.  I am in the process of getting the lap-band by Dr. Weaver.  I am still early in the process so I don't have much information except that her office has always been quick to respond to my questions thus far. 

The monthly support meetings seem to be a lot of fun as well.  The next one is on 8/14/08 @ 730P in the St. Catherines meeting room (back of the hospital).  There are usually about 40 people or so there and almost all of them have had the bypass.  Come to the meeting if you can.  Everyone is very open about talking about their experiences.

Thanks, for the input. I have been researching EVERYTHING for about 3 months now. I too have found nothing negative about her. I received a notice about the support meetings in my  application package. My husband and I are planning to attend this Thursday the 14th. We will be coming from arkansas. Can you perhaps give direction. I know how to get to poplar ave from 240. Thats about all. Thanks for your input.

I know this is a long address!!  Just click on it and you can zoom in on the map to see where you need to go. 

Once you get off of 240 and are going East on Poplar, you will go thru two stoplights. 

Turn Right at the second stoplight (Riverdale, I believe). 

Go under the Train Tracks and make a Right on Park Ave. 

Go through two more stop lights and turn into St. Francis Hospital (second Entrance on the side of the hospital with the ER).  Do not park in front of the hospital, keep going straight to the back of the hospital.  You will go over 2 speed bumps and then turn into the parking lot on the left.  The sign above the doors will say (Longenatti Auditorium).  Go on in and the St. Catherines room is on the right hand side.  You will see everyone going in.

This meeting is a Pot Luck celebrating the 5th year anniversary of the Bariatric Unit at St. Francis, so I am sure it will be more of a "mingle meeting."
