Stress Test Abnormal - Freaked Out

I just got finished with all my pre op tests.  They called me and said that I had an abnormal Stress Test and they want me to see a heart doctor before they can  clear me for surgery.  They have sent off my approval for the insurance company and I thought everything was going just fine. 

I am in shock!   Has anyone had this happen?   I am thinking I may be having a heart bypass instead of a stomach by-pass!   Appointment is Monday.   Needless to say, I am freaked out!

Don't freak out just yet! A lot of times women have abnormal stress tests. Don't know why, guess we're just weird that way! What kind of risk factors do you have other than obesity? Do you smoke? Have high cholesterol? Are you diabetic? There's lots of things that the cardiologist will look at other than just the abnormal stress test. They may want to do a cardiac catheterization on you which is a one day deal just to make sure there's nothing there or whether you have something like a blockage. Just take this as being on the safe side!

I know this must have been a shock to hear, but I have to agree... take a deep breath, and be thankful that your doctor wants to take the precaution of making sure there will be no complications.

Another positive thing you can do is go for some walks this weekend... by yourself for thinking time... with a friend you can talk to without a bunch of distractions. It's going to be a beautiful weekend weather-wise - not too hot. Let a walk and a cool breeze calm your nerves a bit.

I'm sure everything will be fine, and you will be that much more sure that you will be safe during surgery. You sure wouldn't want to go into surgery now, knowing that there was a question of something else going on - right?

Darlin', I know when you get THIS close, how hard it can be day-to-day... from the time WE decide to do this and the time it's actually done can seem like a lifetime in itself. Just be patient. God is in the details!
