Well, Sept 22nd has been moved to Sept 2nd due to a cancellation...yay!!! I'm 4 weeks from today and stoked to begin my new life! Does anyone have an input on Dr. Boyce or Parkwest's Bariatric Unit? Tips? Pain??? any other info? Did I mention pain?

When I first started getting serious about WLS and asked for a referral, my PCP wanted me to go to Dr. Boyce. He said Dr. Boyce and the Park West Bariatric Unit represented the "cadillac" in WLS care in this area. Problem was, Dr. Boyce didn't take my insurance so I am with Dr. Scott at Tennessee Weight Loss and Surgery Center (UT)  instead. I am very happy there, and interestingly enough they have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Boyce and his staff. The way I see it, I was a winner either way!

I had the same problem. I heard good things about Dr. Boyce but he doesn't take my insurance. I had to go to Johnson City to find a surgeon who takes my insurance. I wish you the best on your journey.

I worked in the same hospital system as Dr Boyce for 8 years.  Even though I did not use him for my surgery, I would highly recommend him or his partner, Dr Williams.  Parkwest is a Bariatric Center of Excellence as well.  The only reason that I did not use Dr Boyce is because I had to have an open revision and he didn't feel comfortable doing it, so he referred me on to my surgeon.  As far as bariatric surgeons in east TN, I don't think you could do better than those two.

Dr. Boyce did my surgery.  I can't say enough good things about him.  He's wonderful!  His bedside manner is great, and he's a fabulous surgeon.  Everyone who did my pre-surgery testing, every nurse I spoke with, everyone raved about him.  His staff is great, his entire program with the exercise physiologist and nutritionist, the hospital and care--everything about the entire experience has been perfect.

Another thing I love is that he had vitamins developed for his patients based on his experience with what WLS patients' deficiencies were after surgery.  He does not require you buy the vitamins from him, but he does want any vitamins you would choose to use other than these to be approved by him.  He says all bariatric vitamins are not created equal.  I buy mine from him because they are the same price or less than others, and also the nutrient amount is higher in his.  Anyway, this is just one way that he goes above and beyond what he has to do.

I'm just very pleased with the attention and care I've gotten from his staff.  I'm sure there's someone out there who doesn't like him, but I've never heard anything but good things about him!
